If Directs’ filler is farming sim RPGs and State of Plays’ are ball and gun games, the Game Awards’ filler games are the equivalent of A24 movies made for the sole purpose of winning an Oscar.

No gameplay. Just cutscenes and graphics that are trying to imitate previous winners.

This said, what Palworld is doing is NOT the way that it should be done. It’s cheap, disingenuous, and just a little bit scummy. Art theft, even when done to a big “fuck the consumer” company like Pokémon, sets a bad precedent for the future.

I truly believe that the only reason people are defending Palworld is because it is copying Pokémon.

If this game was stealing or plagiarizing from any other, more well-respected game/franchise, there would not be anything close to the divide going on right now.

And I’ll be honest, Pokemon deserves to have some actual competition for once.

My opinion of SV has really soured as time goes on and I really don’t see any future games being any more innovative or polished with so little incentive to do so.

Also just because I think that Ada’s performance in this remake was really bad, I would never harass the voice actress because of that. Anyone who does so needs to reflect because that’s a horrible thing to do.

TLDR: S/V perfected the basic formula of Pokémon, but is missing the Legends: Arceus features that made that game properly fun, interesting, and a fresh new experience.

So far I am having a pretty great time with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It has been really fun to run around the world and collect Pokémon, despite the performance issues.

The most disappointing thing about the game it’s that it is SO CLOSE to being the best Pokémon game.

Scarlet and Violet, I think, are the foundation that all future games NEED to build upon. At the same time, all future games NEED the gameplay of Arceus to return.

If not, I fear that Pokemon will never have a great modern gaming experience. It may always feel old and dated.
