Important nuance worth noting: Francis didn’t actually propose standard “Universal Basic Income.” He called for a “universal basic wage” (salario universal). Cardinal Czerny clarified the very next day that this was not UBI — it was a targeted measure to publicly recognize and dignify the already-existing essential labor of informal workers (recyclers, caregivers, street vendors, etc.), giving them rights as workers rather than a no-strings handout.
Leo XIV’s emphasis on work as the path to dignity (¶149) actually aligns more closely with Francis’s original wording than the broader UBI framing that later media coverage gave it. Still a real shift in emphasis though — classic CST reasserted for the AI age.

Free the books you own by copying them locally:

For clean EPUB or PDF files: you can download them directly from your Amazon "Manage Your Content and Devices" page. These are fully unencrypted and portable.

But most mainstream/publisher books still have DRM enabled by default, so if it is legal for you, you can strip the DRM:

Pre-April 2025 books:
Straightforward with older pinned Kindle for PC/Mac + Calibre + updated DeDRM plugins (community forks handle KFX). USB from compatible old Kindles sometimes works.

Post-April 2025 / recent books:
Much harder. Free Calibre + DeDRM often fails or needs very specific finicky setups. Paid tools like Epubor Ultimate handle newer KFX better but aren’t foolproof and can break with updates.
