I was able to escape 7 months later and petition to Terminate the supervision CYF had. When I read the allegation sheet that was provided when they took supervision it was horrific. "Mom is unstable" "mom fails to protect child" not one word about Dad being so abusive that I was eventually on life support. I made sure that termination order said "mom escaped and provided safe life for her and child"
The day I decided that I was going to found an organization that provided something different I was still a victim. children youth and family had just taken protective supervision of my then 7 year old son (he's nearly 12 now) because I was being abused and couldn't protect him. I took those hits so that he never would. Taking the one thing we stay alive for is NEVER the answer.
@MaryBethO_ I agree! I've accomplished some amazing things professionally, they do however, pale in comparison to the personal accomplishments of recovery. π
I am the founder and executive director of a nonprofit that provides advocacy and education for family court matters, along with being a Senior Litigation Paralegal in family court. If the kids ask, definitely be honest. Par from that, they don't need to know. Children are already exposed to a negative view of the survivor because that's how an abusive party behaves. Children don't need to know the details. My youngest witnessed my attempted homicide, and watched his father horrifically beat me into unconsciousness all the time. He still loves his dad very much. It's not my place to tell him that his father is a terrible person.
Someone has to say it... STOP BELIEVING INFLUENCERS WHO ARE TRYING TO SELL YOU DV SERVICES! In the US, VAWA guarantees that shelter, advocacy, and other services will be FREE to victims and survivors who need them. The survivors who are selling you classes, coaching, and 1:1's for THOUSANDS of dollars do not care about DV services - if they did, they would understand the basic principles of VAWA. If you are looking to escape you need a TRAINED advocate to help you navigate that process. They have the tools to help you stay safe and it won't cost you a dime! #fakeadvocates #influencerssuck
That every single person utilizing MAT is trading one addiction for the other. The damage to the brains receptors is REAL. Post acute withdrawal is real. If MAT can help even a few be part of the 5% - leave them alone, they are TRYING.
@Chime Can you please update your policies to actually PROTECT account holders. For 6 months Chime has been notifying me through text that some scam operation fronting as a Worldwide Women's Org has been trying to deduct unauthorized funds in varying amounts from my account. I was able to reply and have Chime block the transaction. Today, they didn't notify me and this scam company took my literal LAST dollar. They cleaned my account dry leaving me with 8 cents. When I immediately call to get some assistance I'm told they can see the hold, they can see where the 40+ other transactions were blocked - but that they have to finish allowing the charge to go through before they can even investigate it. The charge is only pending right now, and instead of cancelling it, Chime is allowing it to go through. I can't even start a dispute until the charge has fully cleared my account. Then customer service tells me that they can block the merchant/company directly. Why in the world isn't this something that I would have been notified of the first 10, 20, or 30 times this merchant tried charging me. So on Friday night a scammer cleans out my account and my bank that I've referred over 30 people to, that I've had for years, that I've never needed to call on like this before --- is telling me there is nothing I can do but allow the transaction to go through and then I can dispute it. I won't be continuing as an account holder. What blows my mind is that I wasn't told until the scammers transactions went through that i "should have called and blocked the merchant" - thanks Chime. I see what a valued account holder I am.
A society where we are forced to learn these things is absurd, but one we are living in. I had the benefit of experience in law on my side - not everyone has that. The system is foreign to so many and instead of being there to help, courts punish them for not being able to navigate it correctly. We've had clients that were labeled as "contentious and unstable" for simply voicing their concerns in the only way they knew how. Even if someone is lucky to get legal aid, consistency is a huge issue. Those services aren't prepared to represent someone for 18 years through contempt hearings and ex parte motions filed by an abuser who has endless resources. Working in family law is challenging for me because of my own past - but I'm grateful that I work for an attorney who truly has unmatched compassion. When someone tells us there is abuse, we listen.
If I win this giveaway I will donate the entire amount directly to Surviving Beauty Peer & Advocacy Services, Inc. a one of a kind nonprofit that provides free educational and supportive services to domestic violence victims who are trying to gain custody of their children.
Not that I wouldn't be grateful to have it myself, but the nonprofit that I run could definitely use a helping hand. We offer one of a kind services and since the economy shifted our donations have been at zero. We do what we can to still provide services and they are always free to those who need them.
Before you say a word this IS NOT about left v. right... This is wrong v. right. The US is supposed to be a democracy. Does it not worry anyone that we have courts ruling to remove candidates from the ballot? You are celebrating because it's Trump (I'm not a fan either, but this is much bigger than your own feelings) - when you should be terrified that it's happening at all. #justmytwocents
@amcampbell84 I am blessed the shelter I ran to has a kennel. Most don't. Pets is at the top of the list for why we stay. They can and most definitely will harm or unalive your pet. RIP Salem, I'll see you again when my time comes. π He killed her because I loved her. That's the only reason

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a progressive and fatal disease caused by recurrent head trauma. The research recognizes it for veterans and athletes, but they forget one thing - victims don't have helmets, pads, protective gear, or access to medical evaluation and treatment. Speak with an advocate and get a HELPS evaluation. YOU DESERVE TO GET HELP.
