Well, if Trump does humorously change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, we can then change the acronym HOMES to SHAME. For those not from the Great Lakes region, HOMES abbreviates Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior.

A delicious 2017 botrytis affected Semillion from Stratus. The dominant flavour was peaches. Delicious and worth the wait in our cellar. We were looking forward to this one, but it was more balanced and less sweet than we were expecting.

Another delicious 2018 Speck Family reserve Baco Noir with the rich flavour of dark cherries, peppercorn and plums. This was so enjoyable: a beautiful wine to complement the winter evening. The Short Hills Bench and the Speck Bros. are really hidden jewels of Niagara.

@PaultSpeck @HenryofPelham @PromoteVQAWine Boco Noir is grown not exclusively but mostly in the cooler Short Hills sub-appellation, with its colder winters, furthest distance from Lake Ontario, and broken escapement that opens the vineyards to the southern winds.

A delicious 18 Bacon Noir from Henry of Pelham from the Short Hills Bench. Smooth, w/prunes and dark cherries, shaped by the clay-rich soils and reduced lake moderation: fuller ripeness and darker fruit expression. Slow-forming legs reinforce its rounded mouthfeel. Worth the wait

@Yasir_Naqvi Also: flags are truncated, the Canadian flag should be 2:1, Toronto sank into Lake Ontario, Ottawa is part of Quebec, Halifax and St. John's are in the Atlantic, and Frobisher Bay seems to have swallowed up Iqaluit. Don't use tracing software without checking the results! :-(

We opened a 2015 reserve Riesling from Ravine Vineyards tonight with friends. Perfectly aged. Sweet, much more full-bodied than you'd expect from 9%. Flavors of green apples and peach, but the aroma is more that of a traditional Riesling.
