81% of surveyed business leaders say they’ve reached the limits of classical optimization. But complexity alone doesn’t make a problem a fit for quantum.

Leaders should consider its structure, scale, constraints, business value and the performance of existing approaches.

Here are 7 questions that can help you assess whether quantum optimization could address some of your organization’s toughest challenges. 🧵

Effective quantum error correction is essential to scale gate-model systems, which are expected to be capable of solving useful, real-world problems in areas such as quantum chemistry, fluid dynamics, and materials science. At D-Wave, we believe error awareness is a critical step in overcoming that challenge.

Error awareness is a unique capability made possible by D-Wave’s dual-rail gate-model architecture, combining error detection and real-time control to provide visibility into errors as they occur and the ability to respond to them during computation.

We’re excited that D-Wave’s Christian Gullott participated in @FloridaAtlantic University’s (FAU) recent roundtable, where he discussed how quantum computing can help businesses tackle complex challenges and how universities and industry can collaborate to develop a quantum-ready workforce.

The participation of Small Business Administration (@SBAGov) Administrator @SBA_Kelly Loeffler and Assistant Secretary of the Treasury @cpilkerton underscores the importance of Florida in advancing quantum technology and developing the talent needed to support its growth.

Thank you to @FAUpresident Adam Hasner, Robert Loredo, Ryan Britton and Dean, Dr. Stella Batalama, as well as the entire FAU team, the @BDBPalmBeach and Kelly Smallridge, for helping make this conversation possible.

At D-Wave, we’re proud to partner with FAU, which will host our Advantage2™ annealing quantum computer on its Boca Raton campus. We also look forward to opening our new corporate headquarters and a key U.S. research and development facility in Boca Raton.

It’s clear that quantum is a priority for Florida, and we’re excited to contribute to the state’s growing quantum ecosystem.

Italy has the scientific talent, industrial strength and ambition to become a global leader in quantum computing. Last week in Como, we marked a major step toward that goal: the arrival of Italy’s first D-Wave Advantage2 annealing quantum computer for installation at Villa Saporiti. It is fitting to place our system in Como, the birthplace of Alessandro Volta. His legacy is a powerful reminder of what scientific discovery can make possible. I look forward to seeing how Italian researchers and businesses help shape the quantum era. $QBTS #quantumcomputing

In our new case study, find out how @docomo, Japan’s largest mobile operator, improved network efficiency with its second D-Wave-powered production application.

The Results:
After optimizing a segment with 333 base stations, NTT DOCOMO realized:

📉 65.3% reduction in peak location-registration signals

📉 7% reduction in peak paging signals

⏱️ Approximately five-minute time-to-solution for a problem that the customer’s classical-only approaches could not solve within a production-relevant timeline.

The application has since been deployed and is now in operation nationwide.

Want to hear the story firsthand? Join us at #QubitsAsia in Seoul on October 28 to hear Shuichi Fukuda, a researcher at NTT DOCOMO, walk through the company’s production use of quantum computing for network optimization. He’ll be joined by other D-Wave customers, researchers and industry leaders sharing what they’ve learned applying quantum computing to real-world problems across APAC.

Today, at Digital Innovation Forum 2026, D-Wave announced its Advantage2™ annealing quantum computer has arrived in Lombardy, Italy, for installation at Villa Saporiti in Como. Funded by Swiss Quantum Technology SA (“SQT”), the system, named VoltaB1, will give European researchers, universities and businesses access to powerful, production-grade annealing quantum computing technology once installed. Its arrival marks an important step in Q-Alliance’s work to turn Italy’s quantum ambitions into research capabilities, practical applications and industrial opportunity.

“Bringing Italy’s first annealing quantum computer to Como marks a historic milestone toward making quantum computing a working capability for Italian innovation and industry,” said Dr. @Alan_Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. “Italy has exceptional scientific talent and industrial strength. Together with SQT and Q-Alliance, we can give Italian teams the technology and hands-on experience to tackle complex problems, develop applications that can move into production, and build expertise in the country. That is how quantum infrastructure becomes industrial advantage.”

Today, @SkyWaterFoundry and D-Wave announced a multi-year agreement to continue specialized semiconductor process development and manufacturing in support of D-Wave's quantum technology roadmap.

The collaboration combines D-Wave's expertise in superconducting process engineering and quantum system and processor design with SkyWater's capabilities in process integration, materials engineering, thin-film fabrication and semiconductor manufacturing.

The companies also collaborated on a proof-of-technology project earlier this year, applying D-Wave’s annealing quantum computing technology to drive more efficient manufacturing processes at SkyWater’s fab.

The optimized maintenance schedule reduced lot delays by up to 30%, improving factory throughput. A forthcoming proof-of-concept will focus on extending the model to include resource availability, technician constraints, and additional fab-specific operational constraints.

For manufacturers, a production schedule that works is not always a schedule that makes the best use of time, equipment, and capacity. As product variants and operating constraints multiply, getting a high-quality answer quickly becomes harder.

D-Wave’s new article in @ManufacturingDive explores how quantum optimization can help teams revisit those trade-offs without replacing their existing planning systems. It looks at @fordotosan's production deployment and a @BASF proof of concept to show what faster scheduling can mean in practice.

Last week, we launched our gate-model quantum computing simulator beta program.

For the first time, leading commercial and research organizations in the beta program will have the opportunity to experiment with error-aware programming in preparation for D-Wave's forthcoming gate-model systems.

But what is error awareness, and why does it matter for gate-model quantum computing?  Error awareness provides visibility into errors as they occur and the ability to respond to them during computation.

This is a unique capability enabled by the error detection abilities of D-Wave's dual-rail qubit architecture combined with real-time quantum-classical control. We believe error awareness creates a more efficient path to quantum error correction, and ultimately, fault-tolerant gate-model quantum computers.

Learn more about error awareness and how our gate-model simulator beta users can use it in our new blog post: https://t.co/xLvDJcYZmC

As quantum computing advances, it is creating new cybersecurity challenges that will require a workforce trained to protect critical systems and infrastructure. Yet few workforce development programs provide hands-on training that integrates quantum computing, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure.

@FloridaAtlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (@fauengineering), in collaboration with D-Wave, is addressing this emerging workforce gap with a new $200,000 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (@NIST) to establish a regional quantum cybersecurity workforce ecosystem.

The project comes at a pivotal time for FAU and the state of Florida. FAU will be the first university in Florida to publicly host a dedicated 4,400+ annealing quantum computer through its partnership with D-Wave.
