Just as Pacific Hurricane Lowell has reached Category 5 intensity, we can now no longer say with certainty that he won’t impact Hawaii next week.

Over the course of today, models have started to substantially shift the storm’s expected track eastward after he makes an abrupt northerly turn on the weekend; and if this current trend persists, then you’re looking at a potential track that becomes dangerously close to or directly over Hawaii’s westernmost islands.

Waters at that point would be too cool to support anything close to the 160 MPH, 927 MBAR peak we just saw, but that would still leave a likely-massive CAT 2+ Hurricane with hefty damage potential. For now, there remains a very wide range of possibilities, so there’s ample time to continue watching.

Karina is a Category 4.

And Marie just formed at the end of the line, becoming the 13th named storm of the year.

We normally don’t get to #13 until October.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

Mientras Rocío Nahle dedica su tiempo a exhibir fotografías de ciudadanos críticos y acusar de usar “bots” a los medios que le resultan incómodos, en Veracruz los periodistas siguen siendo asesinados, atacados y secuestrados.

El periodista Eli Martínez, de Grupo Fórmula, salió como todos los días a cubrir la nota policiaca cuando él y otro compañero fueron atacados por un grupo armado. Ambos intentaron escapar corriendo, pero Eli fue herido a balazos y posteriormente privado de la libertad por los criminales.

Los hechos ocurrieron en la colonia Cazones, en Poza Rica, Veracruz.

Lo más indignante es que apenas el pasado 11 de junio, tras el asesinato de su colega Luis Ángel López, Eli había alzado la voz para exigir protección para quienes trabajan en los medios. Lo dijo claramente: informar, documentar y transmitir no es ningún delito.

Hoy Eli está desaparecido y no se sabe si está con vida.

Veracruz se está convirtiendo en un infierno para los periodistas.
