Road to the World Cup - Country 29 of 48, Spain!

La Roja come into this tournament as one of the favorites, rightly so, after winning the Euros in 2024.

Spanish football is in a groove right now with a large number of top managers and some of the best players on the planet, BUT...they still have not won a World Cup knockout match since they lifted the trophy in 2010.

Qualification was much closer than expected as Türkiye went toe to toe until the final matchday, but with a 2-2 draw last November, Spain qualified.

Luis de la Fuente has been in charge since 2023, and clearly has his side playing their best football. De la Fuente rose the ranks managing the U19, U21, and U23 sides before taking the national team job.

This isn't the same tiki-taka Spanish side we are used to seeing on the world stage (although they still have the quality). Both Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams give fullbacks nightmares as they do lethal damage on either side of the pitch.

My player to watch is Dani Olmo. With the injury to Fermin Lopez, Spain has a massive hole to fill in the attacking midfield.

They can obviously go many different way to fill it, but Olmo gives them so many options because he is so dangerous at finishing.

This feels like it might be the time for Spain to be World Champions once again. Talent everywhere, and some real superstars that can change an entire match.

PREDICTION: Spain cruise through their group and go on to become World Champions for the second time ever.
