Most hospitality robots are built to complete a task. Most animatronics are built to perform a predetermined sequence.
@dynamicreatures is building mobile characters that respond in real time.
We’re emerging from stealth as @BostonDynamics’ official entertainment and hospitality partner.

When the most successful robotics commercialization leader in history — who also happens to be your old friend of two decades — starts a new company and calls you first, you don’t need a deck to decide to invest.

Today, @dynamicreatures comes out of stealth, along with their robots designed solely to delight humans and make people feel welcome.

Think character robots that come to you, interact, and respond to the situation, whether that’s in a theme park or at a museum. Not your scheduled animatronics that are the same show every time or your simple robotic hot pot server.

Dynamic Creatures’s co-founder & CEO is Marc Theerman, who took Boston Dynamics' Spot and Stretch robots from 0 to over $100M ARR. No one else in the world has ever done that with real robots in real environments.

We met twenty years ago as competitors when he was running Yellowpepper and I was running ipsh!, two SMS marketing platforms jockeying for position in an industry that didn’t yet exist. Instead of rivals, we became friends over a long stretch of dinners at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that we came to call “Ocean’s 11.”

I've had a front-row seat to Marc’s career ever since, through AdMeld, Google, Millennial Media, Verizon, Google again, and then Boston Dynamics, where he turned a legendary research lab into a real commercial business.

So when Marc started thinking about building something of his own, I knew he could do it. Marc is a Human Unicorn — a founder whose entire career turns out to have been preparation for one specific company, Dynamic Creatures.

He and CTO Farbod Farshidian (former research leader at the Robotics and AI Institute and one of the leading minds in learning-based control) are building interactive robots for entertainment and hospitality. Mobile characters that move naturally through a guest environment, understand the context of your encounter, and respond to you rather than giving a canned performance.

No programmed puppets. No room service bots. A genuinely new category, running on Dynamic Creatures’ SnowJay platform, which brings robotics, real-time perception, adaptive behavior, character design, and costuming all together in one.

Dynamic Creatures is launching as Boston Dynamics' official entertainment and hospitality partner. And they’re already at work with a major theme park and a large retailer.

@EniacVC is proud to lead the seed alongside @stevejang and @KindredVentures, with Heliad, Sunshine Lake and Bluegrass Ventures Group, plus @rwong, Marc Raibert and Lukas M. Ziegler.

Marc, this was twenty years in the making. Go make people believe in magic again.
