@rajeshamlw@UpdatesChennai@CMOTamilnadu@TVKVijayHQ I think as long as the airport comes up (which is going to benefit the whole state), no one is going to complain if the new govt goes after land speculators in a big way. Everybody would welcome curbing real estate excesses because everyone suffers from the costs that brings.
@reclaimchennai Oh this is the most annoying thing but almost every residential complex does this. Worse is that GCC has often built the new SWDs around such ramps on some streets cos they didn't want to demolish them.
@aerowanderer Looks like a very fun ride! Used to love cycling from Besant Nagar to Uthandi on ECR and then trying to beat the traffic back into the city on Sunday mornings. ECR is lovely but yeah wish people were more civic minded about garbage.
Airport Authority of India (AAI) says Parandur Project is essential for Tamil Nadu's growth. Senior officials from AAI set to meet CM Vijay over it...🙏🙏 #Parandur#Chennai
@barathkumarv98@lonestar1007 I'm no fan of AAI but a lot easier to simply define requirements in the qualifying criteria when running the tender in the first place, rather than disqualifying after financial bids are opened. Perfectly fine for GoAP to want a qualified operator but due process is a thing.
@aiyer100@shantanub Ah ok thanks. So if that person's US visa had expired (assuming he flew out on the last day) then until this announcement he needed a transit visa if he was flying via Germany.
@sidhant I may be misremembering but this wasn't always the case much earlier, like 20 years ago? Was there a subsequent rule change that has now been undone?
@aiyer100@shantanub But that wasn't the case earlier. You could transit through Germany without a transit visa if you were flying to the UK, for example. Did that change at some point?
@barathkumarv98@lonestar1007 They also have stakes in BLR and HYD I think. They may end up with a stake in Parandur depending on how the PPP is structured.
@barathkumarv98@lonestar1007 Yeah I wonder if that's why AAI diversified into things like the Aerohub, to build credentials. Though honestly, cancelling a bid after opening just looks like you didn't want that bidder. But also, I'm not really sure how AAI can be both an operator and a regulatory agency.
One of the best streets in India I’ve ever seen… absolutely stunning
Proof that Indian streets can look truly world-class when planning, design, and maintenance come together.
📍KNK Road, Chennai
@AVINASH87605302@UpdatesChennai@MtcChennai@prabhusean7 Not true. All low floor buses are 12m and many depots in mofussil STUs struggle to accommodate that length (earlier buses were as short as 10.5 m). The turning radius is slightly higher making it awkward on some narrow roads.
@aparajithan It is a development issue not an aviation one. Parandur is more than just an airport. Being where it is on the HSR to Bengaluru increases its hinterland and can drive development in the CMA. Just look at BLR service growth after KIAL or HYD too.
@aparajithan@UpdatesChennai I'm not doubting Trichy's location and I keep saying it needs expansion but even with HSR it won't be attractive as a gateway for Chennai. The jobs are in the CMA, not in Trichy. HSR to Parandur would be 30 mins or less from Chennai.
@aparajithan@UpdatesChennai 50 mn for Trichy is far fetched because while it is a manufacturing hub, the sort of higher salary service sector jobs you need to get a 1 tn economy won't go to Tier 2 cities. Trichy deserves its airport expansion but to get to 1 tn GDP you have to leverage your metropolis.
@streetfrontier@reclaimchennai Yeah which is ultimately the root cause of our weak local bodies . Piecemeal property taxes and revenue sources, and a heavy reliance on the state which holds local bodies at its mercy. We have a lopsided system made worse by people almost always opposing higher local taxes.
@NammaTNPages Ideally should be reversed! Expectations should be for supporting Parandur, basic option should be the T1 pickup, and consolation should be the speeding up of T3. But will take whatever we get from AAI.
