After a quiet 14 months, it's time to reintroduce myself. Iโm Faisal, once anon, now getting personal on this account. Why? Because Iโve been dying to share my journey of how I went from early doors at DoorDash and Y combinator startups to starting my own marketing agency.
This is my story ๐
I started my career as a growth marketer almost a decade ago. Learning the ropes, making mistakes, growing. Gratefully, I found myself in the early days of DoorDash and had the fortune to work with some remarkable Y combinator startups. Those places werenโt just jobs. They were my classrooms.
2018. Big year for me. Personal struggles made me realize the importance of health and well-being. I wanted my work to echo my newfound beliefs. I wanted to align myself with brands that had health & wellness at their ethos, so I moved to working at eCommerce health & wellness brands.
I took my learnings from consumer tech and applied them to eCom, helping build lean marketing teams and operations for eCom businesses, cutting costs and boosting the bottom line. This included two of the highest growing health & wellness eCom brands: Perfect Keto and Gainful helping scale both to a combined $50M in annual revenue.
In 2021, I felt an itch. An itch to venture out on my own. I started freelancing and consulting for high-growth eCom brands. I started with what I knew best: email marketing. But growth, I realized, is like a tree โ it needs nurturing at all levels.
Which brings me here. I've always believed in holistic growth. Pinning hopes on one channel is like a stream that can dry up. But a full-funnel approach? That's an ever-flowing river. Itโs why I wake up every day, excited to help brands find their flow.
If youโre reading this, if my journey resonates, and you've got an eCom brand breaching the $50k/mo mark - Letโs chat.
What's the #1 reason your creatives don't perform as well as they should?
I'll go first:
You're not iterating enough.
You need to keep iterating and testing new versions of your creatives.
The big 3 of what makes a creative successful:
1. Attention: Does it stop the scroll?
2. Interest: Does it make them want to learn more?
3. Desire: Does it make them want to buy or take action?
The 3 steps to scaling ads faster:
1. Test the same video but with different hooks, intros and CTAs
2. Take the best performing video and create 3-5 new versions of it
3. Repeat step 2 until the CPA starts to increase
Simple, but powerful.
How to create better creatives:
1. Use curiosity hooks
2. Leverage attention grabbing patterns
3. Make your video look like user generated content
4. Add real people and real products to your ads
5. Tell stories in your videos
Don't just look for the best performing ad.
Look for the best performing theme.
You'll notice that some videos always work better than others.
And you can create variations of that theme to keep scaling.
The best way to generate ideas for your ads?
1. Go to Amazon and read the 1-2 star reviews of your product
2. Write down the most common complaints
3. Use this in your ad angles
When it comes to UGC, don't be afraid to make it worse.
Some of the best UGC is raw, unedited, and not influenced by the brand.
It's less "perfect" but more relatable and authentic.
How to always have great creatives:
- Have a process for creative research
- Analyze UGC creatives for performance and iterations
- Optimize existing and historical creatives
- Use fresh and new ideas
Don't take it personal.
Your ad's performance is an objective feedback on how to improve your work.
Don't get attached to your ideas.
Embrace the feedback.
The best way to learn is to learn from those who are already doing what you want to do.
Same goes for scaling your brand.
Learn from the best.
So you don't have to figure it out on your own.
5 ways to improve your creatives today:
