@joceg002@besavageee I completely agree. It is unfortunate that these college athletes are forced to minimize their educational desires for the sake of their athletic demands.@besavageee#UCR150
African American student athletes are constantly pushed on the football fields, if only their coaches had that same energy when it came to the player's educational desires. #UCR150@besavageee
@Adriana_Orozco7 @besavageee I agree. Maintaining good grades aside from the demands in athletics can put a lot of stress on student athletes. There needs to be some sort of balance between the two & coaches need to recognize that players have other responsibilities off the field as well. #ucr150@besavageee
Although athletes make the conscious decision to be recruited, many blindly sign contracts & are unaware of the rigors that both the academic dept. requires, aside from athletics. They face many physical & mental challenges, as they navigate through higher ed.#ucr150@besavageee
@_brissarojas @besavageee I totally agree. It's unfortunate that the NCAA shows little concern about players and their desires for better opportunities. Atp it seems like they are against anything they doesn't benefit them. @besavageee
The hindrances student-athletes face in attempts to transfer to an institution for THEIR best interest are unjust & unbelievable. They should have the ability to make decisions to transfer, w/o the restrictions embedded in the 4-4, prohibiting them to do so. #UCR150@besavageee
Lack of overall knowledge of symptoms & consequences w/ concussions leaves players vulnerable & susceptible to a higher risk of subsequent concussions, since players who sustain 1 concussion in a season are 3x more likely to sustain a 2nd in the same season @besavageee#UCR150
@i_aguayo2@besavageee I completely agree with that statement. It is very unfortunate that women's athletics don't get the same attention and respect as male's athletics! I can only imagine how many females give up their dreams because of this.
Thanks to the passing of Title IX in 1972, a law that promotes advocacy, gives women equal access to the same opportunities men have and protects them against discrimination. #EDUC150@besavageee
when an athlete signs the NLI, the athlete agrees to attend the college or university he/she signs w/ for 1 academic year but what/who do the athletes enter into an agreement with when they sign the NLI? #UCR50@besavageee
@kamillahjamila @edavidsonhed Hey Kamillah, great point. I strongly believe that self-expression and political inclusion should be granted for every athlete!
Engaging students in career development skill set acquisition from the foundational first year and throughout their college years is critical in an effort to build career confidence in career decision-making processes. #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
@scarp010 @edavidsonhed I agree, and worst of all, most scholarships don't even cover all of the institution's tuitions, fees and expenses! #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
The rights and freedoms of athletes is something that shouldn't be negotiated but given, such as the RIGHT to wear whichever shoes they want; They shouldn't be controlled by their institutions because of their choice of endorsements that benefit THEM only. #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
@krayg006 @edavidsonhed I agree. Men are prioritized when it comes to sports. Women deserve to be recognized also for their strength and abilities as well! @edavidsonhed
Although there have been significant improvements since congress passed Title IX, more needs to be done about the increasing budgets, scholarships and recruiting dollars for women sports. #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
@vejar_julissa @edavidsonhed Hi, I agree with this completely! Diversity on campus is beneficial to everyone. It helps build character, and strengthens relationships between those from different cultural backgrounds. Also, it is proven to enhance future leadership skills. #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
Institutions that include a healthy, wide range of diverse cultural backgrounds positively impacts socialization processes and attitudes for the overall campus climate; and ultimately benefits students with long-term effects of leadership skills. #UCR50 @edavidsonhed
