In 1850 the Fort and the rest of d Danish Gold Coast was sold and incorporated in2 d British Goldcoast. After that the Fort was used as a prison by the British. In 1980 Fort Prinzenstein was partially destroyed by the sea. The remains of the Fort can still be seen today in Keta.
