@bull_robin56713@DarrellChaloner@Heccles94 Umm, isn't the % of non-white people HIGHER amongst young adult males than the population as whole? So doing what you (correctly) point out needs to be done for a fair comparison proves the opposite point than the one you were trying to prove?
@thomasforth I see data-centres as fairly inert things in terms of their impact on local communities - few if any jobs (beyond the construction phase), but little if any negative impact to the local area (any negative impacts are wider)
@WingsScotland@JimSpenceDundee Agree but with one more condition. They mustn't be used to replace conventionally-employed staff.
Otherwise you get unemployed people on NLW emptying bins but existing binmen on more than NLW made redundant, then those same people having to empty bins for less than before.
@DerekSynnott@2wheelsgoodBrum Are you seriously claiming that doing 71 in a 70 is just as bad as sinking 10 pints then doing 100 in a 30 while on the phone.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I've done the former, and wouldn't very much fancy being penalised for it as though I'd done the latter.
@WingsScotland I think you can be a patriotic Scot who in an ideal world would want independence, while being a reluctant unionist on pragmatic grounds.
(I'm not that, I want independence with both heart and head, but I realise a lot of people want it with heart but not head)
@kevverage In a way, we have a lose/lose choice:
* leave the UK and have a significant short/medium-term hit
* remain in the UK, never achieving our potential
Neither are good choices, are they?
2/2
@kevverage As a nationalist I can see why unionists look at that and see evidence that Scotland needs to remain in the UK.
But many unionists seem incapable of seeing it also shows the scale to which being in the union isn't working for Scotland.
1/2
@2wheelsgoodBrum I agree with all this, but I don't think danger is people's key metric when gauging other's bad behaviour on the road.
Other road users delaying them by "stealing their turn" is a major contributor to PERCEIVED level of bad behaviour.
@RethinkingJames It's a pass of something and a fail of other things.
Maybe instead of it going:
GCSE -> (sometimes AS level) -> A Level -> etc
It should go:
Access GCSE -> Foundation GCSE -> GCSE -> etc
And some people would pass the Access and/or Foundation GCSE but not the main one
@meIIy4president Maybe you should copy what we did here in Scotland a decade ago.
Instead of one level qualification with lots of grades, almost all of which are technically passes, have multiple levels of qualification. This separates out the level of study from performance within that level
@admcollingwood I'd say the opposite. In the real world after you leave education, you need:
* To be able to know things, and to do things without googling/AI/etc
* To also be able to make good use of google/AI/etc
So assessment should be a mix to test both.
@CWIPoaster It's a lot easier to punish people who drive cars than those who ride bikes, on account of the former having to have registration plates.
I do not advocate plates for bikes, but we missed a trick by not requiring them for e-bikes. Should also make hire bike companies have them.
@Scaleyback1139@PlantsBikesBass@Niconelove@NFBUK@cityoflondon A zebra crossing is perfectly clear. However, this one lacks the optional Belisha beacons which can help visibility. So could raising it
Also this is probably above the level of traffic (both vehicles and pedestrians) at which a pelican is more suitable than a zebra.
@ionleu "C hash" would be considerably more forgivable than "C hashtag".
I mean the # character is called the hash symbol. It's when you have a tag which is prefixed with a hash symbol that you have a hashtag.
@2wheelsgoodBrum It's not "motonormative thinking" to point out that unless someone can avoid owning a car entirely, the cost of ownership doesn't need to be included when comparing the cost of train vs car for one specific journey.
If you can avoid owning a car entirely that's different ofc.
@WingsScotland So given what you describe, where the hell do you go from here?
* Try and get some mainstream media outlet to take it up?
* Try and get one of the party leaders at Holyrood to take it up?
* Private prosecution?
* Judicial Review?
* Some combination?
* Something else?
@TinyWriterLaura The rules at a zebra crossing is that you SHOULD stop for those waiting to cross and you MUST stop for those already crossing
Rule 195 of the Highway Code covers this https://t.co/vUg7aM0ROG :
@mattyglesias I think it's about honesty, and not charging more than advertised:
I am happy with an ice-cream shop pricing a cone at Β£4 but discounting it to Β£2 on a grey Tuesday in March.
I am not happy with them pricing it at Β£2 but charging "surge prices" of Β£4 on a sunny Saturday in July
@MBDscience@savoy_girl They are a newer system than that used when current pupils' parents/potential employers/etc sat exams, therefore they're "new".
Same thing here in Scotland. Standard Grades were replaced in 2014 by National 4 and National 5 qualifications which replaced them are "new".
