@the_transit_guy Yeah seems like a solid way to make “driving less” a feasible thing to do in 2026 America is to have, say, some alternative to cars available. I mean I love my car tbh but thank God for the subway + LIRR + Metro North + NJT + Amtrak (makes having the car in the shop nbd too)

He “died by” suicide, per the article, as if he didn’t commit the act. “His life was taken from him” it says—yeah, by himself. The policy that led to this is cruel + indefensible imo, but he had more agency than that

@JohnTBTucker @humantransit Like I see guys here in New York driving lifted half-tons (not so many 3/4-tons+ around here bc they just don’t fit lol) and I just know they never leave the pavement. Maybe they tow a boat 2x/yr. And new ones (esp GM + Ram) are so tall it can be hard to see pedestrians, esp kids

@JohnTBTucker @humantransit Eh, some ppl just hate trucks (and huge vehicles in general)—partly bc a lot of them live in big cities where they’ve become kind of a problem. I love a big V8, drove full-size pickups myself, but in cities/suburbs they’re often overkill + dangerous to peds bc they’re so tall now

@pescami Curious if Schur + Pos covered one other type of fandom, the one I grew up with: SEC football. Imo it’s diff in kind from most others bc it’s SO woven into the fabric of life/culture (year-round!) in a way I’ve never seen elsewhere—a near-universal institution, esp in AL

@pescami Always wondered why the LIRR is LIRR but the Metro North Railroad (1 word) is MNR. Maybe just that when they formed the modern Metro North, née New York Central Railroad—which was spelled as one word w/ reporting mark NYC—they decided to keep the old format? Aaaanyway…
