“East Acton is God’s own country – eastern division” – said by my grandad William Portwood (born locally in 1888).
Never moved from East Acton - never will.

Prof John Curtice said today that the 'official' BBC/ITN/Sky News estimates of notional 2019 results for the new Parliamentary boundaries will be coming out shortly after the Tamworth and Mid Bedfordshire byelections.
Jack Oldfield, who was Labour MP for Essex South East between 1929 and 1931 (& never sat elsewhere), probably holds the record, 68 years, for the longest time as an ex-MP. He died in 1999 aged 100.
The mountain Labour must climb is not as high as it was. After the 2019 election its target for an overall majority was a lead of 13% in votes. It may now be just 5%. My analysis for @prospect_uk shows how the winning post has moved.

An inscription from George Jacob Holyoake to his friend George Healey in his book on the History of Co-operation.
Healey was an alderman in Rochdale and retired to Windermere, where Holyaoke would visit from time to time. #CoopArchive#WhatWeSawToday

Kelvin Kiptum becomes the first human in history to run a marathon in sub-2:01 🔥
He now holds two out of the three fastest ever times over 26.2 miles (2:00:35 and 2:01:25) ⚡️
A sub-two hour marathon looks a possibility 👀
About a third of people think they’ll have to pay inheritance tax.
Yet the most recent Treasury figures show that it’s paid on just 3.76% cent of estates.
Credit to Valerie Vaz MP for using an adjournment debate in Parliament to pay a fine tribute to Glen Barnham (search for Acton)

@WMDX_CAMRA is reporting that the Castle pub in North Acton has been demolished https://t.co/8UeduzHWmE
Particularly sad in the week of Glen Barnham's death - Glen had a fount of stories about meeting Equity members there in the days the old BBC Rehearsal Rooms were next door
Sad news. This morning took my laptop for a minor repair at Chiswick Computers (excellenly dealt with at no charge), and found that the shop is closing on 30/9.
We're running a webinar for our members with @purpose_union about good practice around electoral registration auto-enrolment for university students.
Big thanks to them and to our members from @cardiffcouncil elections team who are sharing their frontline experience.
