Kicking off National Mushroom Month -- now officially in June! 🍄
The Mushroom Council joined @USDA leadership in D.C. to discuss boosting fresh mushroom consumption & spotlighting the new “It’s Not Magic, It’s Mushrooms” campaign.
@RobertIrvine@calleymeans@SecRollins@SecKennedy I would love to take you on a tour of a U.S. mushroom farm 🍄🟫 Mushrooms have so much to offer our military and schools - vitamin D, ergothioneine (for brain health), selenium, B vitamins, and so much more.
Two humble ingredients, one smarter dinner plate.
Key Ingredients:
• Mushrooms: Ergothioneine, Beta-Glucans, Selenium
• Broccoli: Glucoraphanin, which becomes sulforaphane when myrosinase is active. (anti-inflammatory)
Ergothioneine (in mushrooms) is so uniquely protective that the human body has evolved a dedicated transporter protein (SLC22A4/OCTN1) just to absorb it. Some researchers argue that ergothioneine may qualify as a vitamin.
Together, broccoli and mushrooms bring a nutrient-dense mix of antioxidants and immune-supportive compounds to the table.
Pro tip:
Cooking can blunt broccoli’s myrosinase, but a pinch of mustard seed powder can help restore sulforaphane formation.
Active myrosinase raises sulforaphane bioavailability in broccoli by about 3 to 4 times compared with preparations without it.

On #NationalAgDay, we recognize the unwavering dedication of American farmers, ranchers, and producers who provide the food and resources that sustain our communities. USDA is committed to putting farmers FIRST by supporting their vital work, always ❤️🇺🇸🧑🌾 #AgDay26
This week we’re honoring the hands that feed, clothe, and fuel our country. 🚜🌾From dawn until dusk, their work sustains us all. To our nation’s hardworking producers, we thank you. 🇺🇸

“mushrooms contain an antioxidant called ergothioneine, which some animal studies suggest may support brain health…” >> great to see more focus on mushrooms and ergo!
If Metro can reduce the housing tax rate and index it to inflation, shouldn't the County being considering the same for the Preschool for All Tax, which was expected to have a surplus of $409,000,000 at the end of FY 24?

@_tjh_@jvegapederson@SMeieran@BrimJulia Kudos to @BrimJulia for requesting adequate time for important discussions. We do not elect commissioners to rubber stamp the chair’s budget and priorities.
The county kicked off worksessions yesterday, and dear reader, it's even worse than I thought. The advisory committee designated to provide input into the county budget opened the session testifying to absolutely unbelievable dysfunction. 1/3
Both the city and county are using United Way to disperse funds to numerous other nonprofits. This seems like a bad structure for reporting and accountability.
And I don't understand why sending money to United Way to send money to providers is faster than just sending money to the providers. This sounds like we're using United Way as a workaround to a process problem needing to be solved in the county contracting. 3/4
What’s “rich” is an unelected seat filler telling taxpayers they are making a “moral decision” if they choose to leave a county that is mismanaging nearly everything.
@multco We are told story we have a really high tax burden, but we're really talking about a tax on the people who can most afford it. I don't know what it's like to make a decision of being so rich and choosing to leave a community rather than contribute to it. That's a moral decision.
Multnomah County is awash in homeless tax dollars, yet they can't offer anything but tents to 80 asylum seekers who are one week away from homelessness?
Unbelievable, honestly.
