I would just assume the "Studies" were politically motivated.

To be effective at all, the way people approach work is welded at the hip on what needs to be done, and the environment.

Labor based group projects, that would indicate strong social ties with the other laborers. They won't be happy if you keep showing up after half of the work is done. And waiting means the sun is going up, and doing the work in a more uncomfortable environment.
