Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy

My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false.

We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified.

The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project.

The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion.

It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind.

If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

I’m awake by 5AM typing this.

I just woke up angry for no reason and now I understand why. It’s this country, so many things are wrong it’s just terrible.

1. Money : I know the country is poor but the money worshiping is just too much, physically and virtually. You can post being suicidal and someone will still beg you for money in the comments.

2. Unity : No single unity as a nation, I’ve never seen a group of people so easy to divide in my life.. Even when united, we’re still divided.

3. No focus: We cannot decide on a goal and focus on it, our attention span is just too short to achieve something meaningful as a group.

4 Adaptations : This is one of our worst traits, the ability to just adapt to terrible situations, any small thing, instead of fixing the problem, we’re already looking for the alternative. What do you mean by I should change tomatoes with cucumber??? This is why all of us are short because there’s no nutrient in our body.

5. Education : The absolute disregard for any sort of education. We do not have enough positive examples of the result of education, or perhaps we just refuse to see it. It’s terrible. Like everyday, education loses its relevance…… Whyyyyyy????

6. Fraud : Yahoo, wire wire, G Boys, Hustle, working boy, we will keep finding 500 different names to call fraud just to make it acceptable, people do not see fraud as a crime, it’s part of the daily lives now. We know them, we see them, they announce it, they flaunt it and we all just accept it. It’s getting to a case of “if you can’t beat them, join them”.

7. No regard for human life : This is so crazy that it’s now a defence mechanism, you could see someone dying by the road side and everyone will just keep walking away, some don’t care and a lot are scared of being accused of causing harm to the victim. If you have an accident, the first set of first responders are busy trying to steal from you. It’s crazy. How long will it take to get the ambulance here? I’m sure you know the answer.

8. No regard or safety for women and children : Child marriage today, domestic violence tomorrow and it’s just not looking like it’ll stop soon.

9. No attention to detail : People are just used to doing terrible works now, it’s sad, from handiwork to professional workings, people just do the average and expect you to accept it, as long as it works. No arrangement, no process, nothing. You can take your laptop for repairs and when you get it back, two screws could be missing. I mean it’s well covered and all and now working, but why’s the screws not complete anymore????? Why??? let them fix tiles for your house and see how it’s just not aligned.
