Algerians doing jigs in Kansas... Brits eating barbecue in Texas... Koreans doing full on kegstands in Mexico... just goes to show that the entire world can be united by the simple concept of getting really drunk and watching a sporting event
If I had to go home to convert my O-1 genius visa into a greencard, it would completely derail my career. Not even worth applying at that point.
The process for a greencard is 1 to 2 years. The O-1 lasts 2 to 3 years. Just say you don’t want high skill immigration
"You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman...you cannot become a German or a Turk... But anyone from any corner of the world can come to America to live and become an American."
-Ronald Reagan on one of our greatest strengths, which we seem eager to destroy
This is exactly the part of the AOS debate getting missed.
This isn't only about immigrants' rights. It's about US citizens too. Roughly 1 in 5 married couples in the US includes a spouse born abroad. That's not a fringe group, it's 21% of married couple households.
When an American marries someone here lawfully on a visa, adjustment of status is how their spouse gets a green card without leaving the country.
Take that away and you are telling US citizens their husband or wife has to leave the US to process a visa abroad. They spend months (and often years) apart, and there is no guarantee they are allowed back in.
If there are US citizen kids, you are now separating them from a parent too.
That's not just an immigrant problem. That's a US citizen losing the right to live in their own country with the family they built here, even though their spouse followed every rule.
What I find the most frustrating is that all these old folks have been in office long enough to have mentored at least a dozen people who they SHOULD feel is able to carry on their legacy into the new era but they just cling to power instead.
OUTRAGEOUS. The husband of this US citizen did literally nothing wrong. He submitted his renewal to @USCIS five months before his status was set to expire. Then the government just sat on his paperwork and did nothing, and his protections expired.
I thought about that quote at the end of the Biden presidency, as America prepared to let psychotic narcissist Trump diminish our nation.
We did have it all. Wealthy global superpower. Comfortable lives by any global standard. Progress. Respected.
We threw it away for nothing.
Probably 50 million voters like this guy who will never change their mind despite being incapable of providing a single valid reason why they’re operating that way. Sad.
The forest service does lots of things, but they're the frontline in fighting wildfires. There is literally no issue Republicans aren't maximally evil on. You cannot hate them enough.
We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.
