Data and Information Incubator at IDSC: Ensuring Information Flow to Support Decisions of the Supreme National Committee for Integrated Coastal Zone Management

In the context of implementing the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Plan, the working team of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast in Egypt" project held an important meeting at the Cabinet headquarters. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Hassan FelFel, Director General of the Climate Change Department at the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), brought together representatives of the IDSC’s Climate Change.

Department with the Project's executive leadership: Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali (Executive Director), Dr. Yousry El-Koumi (Strategic Expert and ICZM Plan official), and Dr. Mohamed Soliman (Monitoring System official).

The meeting featured a detailed presentation of the Project's core outputs, which constitute a cornerstone for effectively addressing the climate challenges facing vital coastal areas. The presentation included a review of the coastal protection works implemented, and hazard maps that accurately identify the most vulnerable areas. The National Monitoring System, which is nearing completion of its installation along the Mediterranean coast of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was also presented. Furthermore, the latest updates on the pilot application of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan in Damietta Governorate were highlighted.

Discussions focused on the pivotal role of the IDSC within the institutional framework for Integrated Coastal Zone Management. Emphasis was placed on the critical importance of establishing a Data and Information Incubator within the center. This incubator will ensure the accurate and timely flow and exchange of information among all partner entities, whether at the central level, the coastal governorate level, or among relevant research centers and universities. This informational integration aims to enhance the State's capacity to make informed decisions in the face of climate change impacts.

The meeting concluded with an affirmation of the necessity of sharing data and information accurately and comprehensively with all relevant entities, and escalating it to the ministerial level, specifically to the Supreme National Committee for Integrated Coastal Zone Management. This step guarantees that the Committee's decisions are based on the latest and most accurate scientific and practical data available, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the ICZM Plan in protecting the Egyptian coasts and boosting adaptation to the increasing effects of climate change.

From Seabed to Shoreline: How 'Beach Sand Nourishment' is Changing the Rules of Coastal Protection in a Comprehensive National Dialogue.

In a significant step toward enhancing adaptation to climate change, the Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast project participated in an intensive national dialogue titled: "The Impact of Climate Change on Coastal Areas." The dialogue's activities toured four coastal governorates—Dakahlia, Beheira, Alexandria, and Matrouh—throughout September.

The dialogue showcased collaboration between governmental and community efforts, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Shore Protection), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Experts met with a wide spectrum of stakeholders and community groups, including governorate general diwans, agricultural directorates, the National Council for Women, agricultural and non-governmental associations, in addition to farmers, village chiefs (Umdah), tribal elders, university professors, and business representatives.

The discussion focused on the general and specific impacts of climate change on various sectors, with a comprehensive review of the ministries' efforts to address the risks of erosion and flooding. Dr. Mohamed, the Executive Director of the Project, unveiled an innovative vision for coastal protection, noting that the project's concept of natural protection was primarily inspired by the residents' experience in safeguarding their lands using reeds (Bous) as natural barriers for sand.

He also reviewed the project's efforts, which included implementing natural protection techniques along 69 km of the Delta's coasts, in addition to the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plan. This ambitious plan provides scenarios until 2100 to identify the risks of sea-level rise, inundation, and erosion, establishing a framework for all relevant stakeholders.

The core focus of the discussion was the new pioneering technique: "beach sand nourishment from the seabed" to address erosion effects. This technique impressed attendees, who described it as a natural solution that significantly contributes to enhancing climate change adaptation.

While applauding the technique, experts and participants stressed the necessity of conducting further in-depth environmental studies to ensure the preservation of the ecological balance within the sea. They emphasized the importance of not solving the beach erosion problem at the expense of creating another environmental issue.

The Voice of the Delta Resounds: "Message from Planet
Earth" Reaches Beheira to Conclude Its First Phase of Combating Climate Change.

The Beheira Governorate recently witnessed a crucial stop in Egypt's efforts to face climate change challenges, as it hosted the national awareness campaign, "Message from Planet Earth," for the conclusion of its first-phase tour. Under the patronage of Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, intensive activities were launched to raise awareness about climate risks and the state's efforts to protect our precious coasts.

This campaign came as an essential part of the project "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast," and as an affirmation of the continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the coastal governorates to protect Egypt's shores. Over three days, the campaign toured the governorate's General Diwan, the New Rashid City Authority, and the New Rashid University, to highlight the risks facing the Nile Delta and the Northern Coast and to present the national efforts made in this regard.

With this, the Beheira Governorate has closed an important chapter in the book of climate awareness, opening the door for a new phase. The second phase of the awareness campaign is scheduled to be launched soon, to include other coastal governorates such as Matrouh, Alexandria, and North Sinai, in a step that confirms the Egyptian state's commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable future.

صوت الدلتا يصدح: "رسالة من كوكب الأرض" تصل إلى البحيرة في ختام مرحلتها الأولى لمواجهة تغير المناخ

شهدت محافظة البحيرة مؤخرًا محطة حاسمة ضمن جهود مصر لمواجهة تحديات تغير المناخ، حيث استقبلت الحملة التوعوية الوطنية "رسالة من كوكب الأرض" في ختام جولتها للمرحلة الأولى. تحت رعاية الدكتور هاني سويلم، وزير الموارد المائية والري، والدكتورة جاكلين عازر، محافظ البحيرة، انطلقت فعاليات مكثفة لتعزيز الوعي بالمخاطر المناخية وجهود الدولة لحماية سواحلنا الثمينة.

جاءت هذه الحملة كجزء أساسي من مشروع "تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ في دلتا نهر النيل والساحل الشمالي"، وتأكيدًا على التعاون المستمر بين وزارة الموارد المائية والري والمحافظات الساحلية لحماية الشواطئ المصرية. على مدار ثلاثة أيام، جابت الحملة ديوان عام المحافظة، وجهاز مدينة رشيد الجديدة، وجامعة رشيد الجديدة، لتسلط الضوء على المخاطر التي تواجه دلتا النيل والساحل الشمالي، وتعرض للجهود الوطنية المبذولة في هذا الشأن.

وبهذا، تكون محافظة البحيرة قد أغلقت فصلًا هامًا في كتاب التوعية المناخية، لتفتح الباب أمام مرحلة جديدة ٬ ومن المقرر أن تنطلق المرحلة الثانية من حملة التوعية قريبًا، لتشمل محافظات ساحلية أخرى مثل مطروح والإسكندرية وشمال سيناء، في خطوة تؤكد التزام الدولة المصرية ببناء مستقبل أكثر مرونة واستدامة.

In the Face of Climate Challenges: Dakahlia Welcomes the "Message from Planet Earth" Campaign to Protect Coasts and the Delta

Under the patronage of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sewilam, and the Governor of Dakahlia, Major General Tariq Marzouq, the Dakahlia Governorate launched an intensive community awareness campaign titled "Message from Planet Earth." The campaign aims to raise awareness about climate change and the efforts made by the Egyptian state to address its impacts.

This campaign is part of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast" project. It is a continuation of the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and coastal governorates to protect Egypt's shores and manage climate-related crises.

Over four days, the campaign's activities toured the Dakahlia Governorate General Diwan, the New Mansoura City Authority, the 15th of May City Authority in Gamasa, Delta University for Science and Technology, and the New Mansoura University. The campaign highlighted the risks facing the Nile Delta and the Northern Coast and the preventive measures taken by the state. Mr. Mohamed Homs, Director of the Integrated Solid Waste Management, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about these changes due to their direct link to infrastructure and all aspects of life.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, the Project's Executive Director, reviewed the state's efforts to protect coastal areas. He noted the implementation of environmental protection works for a third of the Delta's area and the development of a comprehensive integrated coastal management plan. This plan aims to provide decision-makers with a future vision of potential risks until 2100 and to define the roles of relevant bodies in responding to these challenges.

Mr. Hassan Gabrallah, the Project's Media Coordinator, also pointed to the positive impact of protection works on citizens' lives, emphasizing the effective role of women in implementing some components of these projects. This tour is part of previous awareness tours that included the governorates of Kafr El Sheikh, Damietta, and Port Said, as part of a comprehensive national strategy to combat climate change.

تأتي هذه الحملة ضمن مشروع "تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ في دلتا نهر النيل والساحل الشمالي"، وتعد استمرارًا للتعاون المثمر بين وزارة الموارد المائية والري والمحافظات الساحلية لحماية الشواطئ المصرية وإدارة الأزمات المتعلقة بالمناخ.

على مدار آربعة أيام ، جابت فعاليات الحملة ديوان عام محافظة الدقهلية ، جهاز مدينة المنصورة الجديدة، جهاز مدينة ١٥مايو بجمصة، جامعة الدلتا للعلوم والتكنولوجيا وجامعة المنصورة الجديدة ، حيث تم تسليط الضوء على المخاطر التي تواجه دلتا النيل والساحل الشمالي، والإجراءات الوقائية التي تتخذها الدولة. وقد أكد الأستاذ محمد حمص، مدير الإدارة المتكاملة للمخلفات الصلبة، على أهمية رفع الوعي بهذه التغيرات لارتباطها المباشر بالبنية التحتية وكافة جوانب الحياة.

من جانبه، استعرض الدكتور محمد أحمد علي، المدير التنفيذي للمشروع، جهود الدولة في حماية المناطق الساحلية، مشيرًا إلى تنفيذ أعمال حماية بيئية لثلث مساحة الدلتا، ووضع خطة شاملة للإدارة الساحلية المتكاملة. تهدف هذه الخطة إلى توفير رؤية مستقبلية لصناع القرار حول المخاطر المحتملة حتى عام 2100، وتحديد أدوار الجهات المعنية للاستجابة لهذه التحديات.

كما أشار الأستاذ حسن جبر الله، المنسق الإعلامي للمشروع، إلى
الأثر الإيجابي لأعمال الحماية على حياة المواطنين، مؤكدًا على الدور الفعّال للمرأة في تنفيذ بعض مكونات هذه المشاريع. وتأتي هذه الجولة كجزء من جولات توعية سابقة شملت محافظات كفر الشيخ، ودمياط، وبورسعيد، في إطار استراتيجية وطنية متكاملة لمواجهة تغير المناخ.

Central and Local Coordination: The Cornerstone for the Success and Tangible Implementation of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan "Second Round for Coastal Governorates"

In a pivotal step towards integrating climate change adaptation efforts into the state's development strategy, Cairo hosted an intensive workshop on July 1 and 2 to discuss the first draft of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan, "Second Round." This plan falls within the framework of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast of Egypt" project, aiming to present a detailed overview of the plan's outputs by the project's expert team to a wide range of concerned entities, with the goal of achieving comprehensive consensus to ensure the plan's effectiveness and successful implementation.

To achieve central and local coordination and cooperation essential for the success of this vital plan, the workshop was attended by representatives from the Integrated Management Committees of Alexandria, Kafr El Sheikh, Beheira, and Matrouh governorates, alongside representatives from various ministries, agencies, and research institutes, including: the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (represented by the Irrigation Sector and Groundwater Sector), the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, the New Urban Communities Authority, the Egyptian General Authority for Shore Protection, the Egyptian Public Authority for Drainage Projects, the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Water Research Center, the Groundwater Research Institute, the Water Resources Research Institute, the Agricultural Research Center, and the Environmental Affairs Agency, in addition to the working team of the Climate Change Adaptation Enhancement Project.

The workshop addressed the increasing risks associated with sea-level rise, which include inundation, erosion, and sedimentation, as well as saltwater intrusion into groundwater. The profound impact of these changes on coastal biodiversity and the public health of residents in these vital areas was also reviewed, along with the social and economic effects on the coastal communities of these regions, emphasizing the importance of preventive and remedial interventions.

Presentations and discussions over the two days were led by a distinguished group of specialized experts in relevant fields, enriching the workshop with constructive debates and effective questions. Among the prominent experts were: Dr. Mahmoud Fouad Ahmed (Environmental Diversity Expert and Nature Conservation Consultant), Dr. Essam El Din Fouad (Coastal Engineering and Port Construction Expert), Dr. Kawthar Kamel (Public Health Expert), Dr. Sameh Sakr (Groundwater Expert), Dr. Mohamed Abdel Karim (Socio-Economics Expert from Alexandria University), and Dr. Mahmoud Adel (Professor of Geographic Information Systems at Alexandria.

Egypt Opens Doors to Climate Expertise: High-Level Arab Delegation Inspects "Nile Delta Protection" in Damietta

In an international affirmation of its growing leadership and successes in confronting climate change challenges, and under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Egypt welcomed a delegation of experts from the Arab Water Council. This visit comes within the framework of exchanging expertise and reviewing the outstanding achievements of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast" project.

This project is considered a pioneering model of fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Egyptian General Authority for Shore Protection, with support and funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This hosting reflects international appreciation for the Egyptian efforts exerted in this vital field.

The visit focused on the shore protection works implemented in front of the West Damietta Power Station, where the project's working team welcomed over 40 visitors from the Arab Water Council members. The aim was to gain close insight into how to obtain funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for projects adopting the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus approach, a vital approach to confronting increasing climate change challenges.

The delegation included prominent figures in the field of water and development, led by His Excellency Professor Dr. Hussein El-Atfy, Vice President of the Arab Water Council and former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi, UNDP Resident Representative. The visit also included specialized experts from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, and Morocco, reflecting the regional and international importance of this pioneering project.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, the Project Executive Director, gave a comprehensive presentation on the study and experimental phases that preceded the implementation of natural protection works. Dr. Ahmed reviewed the precise steps taken to secure the necessary funding from the Green Climate Fund, leading to the stages of constructing the actual protection body, while highlighting the pivotal role of the local community, especially the active participation of women in implementing these works.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi, UNDP Representative, reviewed the historical aspects of the close cooperation between the Programme and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. Dr. Bayoumi highlighted the effective partnership in implementing numerous development projects that serve the sustainable development goals in Egypt.

Engineer Rehab Badeer Hassan, Director of the Energy and Climate Change Unit at the Ministry of Electricity's General Diwan and Climate Ambassador for the project, shared her rich experience within the capacity-building program for Climate Ambassadors with the delegation participants. Engineer Rehab emphasized the significant impact of the program's content in bringing about a positive transformation in her personal and psychological traits, which actively contributed to enhancing her capabilities on both personal and professional levels.

Professor Hassan Gabrallah, the Project Media Coordinator and responsible for the community awareness plan, also reviewed the integrated stages of this plan. He explained that the awareness campaigns targeted all community segments located within 2 kilometers of the coast in the governorates where protection works were implemented. The presentation witnessed extensive discussions and detailed questions about many technical and procedural points of the project's work stages, confirming the great interest in Egyptian expertise in this field.

This visit underscores Egypt's growing role as a regional and international partner in climate change adaptation efforts, offering a practical model that other countries can benefit from in building their resilience capabilities and protecting their coastal resources.

تمركزت الزيارة حول أعمال حماية للشواطئ التي نُفذت أمام محطة كهرباء غرب دمياط، حيث استقبل فريق عمل المشروع أكثر من 40 زائراً من أعضاء المجلس العربي للمياه. بهدف التعرف عن كثب على كيفية الحصول على تمويلات من صندوق المناخ الأخضر(GCF) للمشاريع التي تتبنى نهج ترابط قطاعات المياه والطاقة والغذاء والنظم الإيكولوجية (WEFE)وهو نهج حيوي لمواجهة تحديات التغير المناخي المتزايدة.

تقدم الوفد شخصيات بارزة في مجال المياه والتنمية، على رأسهم السيد الأستاذ الدكتور حسين العطفي، نائب رئيس المجلس العربي ووزير الري الأسبق، والسيد الدكتور محمد بيومي، الممثل الإنمائي لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة. كما ضمت الزيارة خبراء متخصصين من مصر، الأردن، لبنان، فلسطين، تونس، والمغرب، مما يعكس الأهمية الإقليمية والدولية لهذا المشروع الرائد.

قدم الدكتور محمد أحمد علي، المدير التنفيذي للمشروع، عرضاً شاملاً تناول فيه مراحل الدراسة والتجارب التي سبقت تنفيذ أعمال الحماية الطبيعية. استعرض الدكتور أحمد الخطوات الدقيقة التي تم اتخاذها لتأمين التمويل اللازم من صندوق المناخ الأخضر، وصولاً إلى مراحل إنشاء جسم الحماية الفعلي، مع تسليط الضوء على الدور المحوري للمجتمع المحلي، وخاصة مشاركة السيدات الفاعلة في تنفيذ هذه الأعمال.

من جانبه، استعرض الدكتور محمد بيومي، ممثل برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، الجوانب التاريخية للتعاون الوثيق بين البرنامج ووزارة الموارد المائية والري. وسلط الدكتور بيومي الضوء على الشراكة الفاعلة في تنفيذ العديد من المشاريع التنموية التي تخدم أهداف التنمية المستدامة في مصر.

وشاركت المهندسة رحاب بدير حسن مدير ادارة بوحدة الطاقة والتغيرات المناخية بديوان عام وزارة الكهرباء وسفيرة المناخ بالمشروع، تجربتها الثرية ضمن برنامج رفع القدرات الخاص بسفراء المناخ مع المشاركين في الوفد. وأكدت المهندسة رحاب على الأثر الكبير لمحتوى البرنامج في إحداث تحول إيجابي في سماتها الشخصية والنفسية، مما ساهم بشكل فاعل في تعزيز قدراتها على المستويين الشخصي والمهني.

كما استعرض الأستاذ حسن جبرالله، المنسق الإعلامي للمشروع والمسؤول عن خطة التوعية المجتمعية، المراحل المتكاملة لهذه الخطة. وأوضح أن حملات التوعية استهدفت جميع فئات المجتمع الواقعة ضمن نطاق 2 كيلومتر من ساحل المحافظات التي شهدت تنفيذ أعمال الحماية. شهد العرض نقاشات مستفيضة وأسئلة تفصيلية حول العديد من النقاط الفنية والإجرائية لمراحل العمل بالمشروع، مما يؤكد الاهتمام الكبير بالخبرة المصرية في هذا المجال.

تؤكد هذه الزيارة على الدور المتنامي لمصر كشريك إقليمي ودولي في جهود التكيف مع التغيرات المناخية، وتقديمها لنموذج عملي يمكن للدول الأخرى الاستفادة منه في بناء قدراتها على الصمود وحماية مواردها الساحلية.

In Cooperation with Port Said University: Intensive Climate Change Awareness Campaign Targets Delta Youth in its Third Round.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and in collaboration with Professor Dr. Sherif Youssef Saleh, President of Port Said University, Port Said University – represented by the Faculty of Engineering within its Engineering, Science, and Technology Sector – hosted the third round of the awareness campaign in Port Said Governorate. This initiative is part of the diligent efforts undertaken by the Egyptian state to raise awareness about climate change and address its impacts.

Port Said University welcomed the team of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation" project, which delivered a valuable awareness seminar to university professors and students. The seminar included a comprehensive presentation on climate challenges and their effects on the Nile Delta. It also highlighted the efforts made by relevant state bodies to address these impacts through activities and projects aimed at enhancing climate change adaptation.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, the Executive Director of the project, reviewed the imminent dangers facing the Nile Delta due to climate change, emphasizing the decisive measures the state is taking to confront these risks. This included highlighting the protection works implemented for one-third of the Delta using environmentally friendly coastal techniques, in addition to the outputs of the integrated coastal zone management plan. This plan aims to provide decision-makers with a future vision regarding the anticipated risks along the Egyptian Mediterranean coast and their potential scenarios until 2100, and to define the roles of relevant entities and the procedures adopted to adapt to the impacts of these risks according to the plan's institutional framework.

For his part, Mr. Hassan Gabrallah, the project's Media Coordinator, stressed the utmost importance of comprehensive community awareness regarding climate change, with a particular focus on youth and university students, as they represent the core and future of the nation. He affirmed the project management's keenness to prioritize all universities in coastal governorates in the awareness plan, noting the successes achieved by similar seminars previously held at Kafr El Sheikh and Damietta Universities.

The seminar was honored by the presence of a distinguished group of university leaders and esteemed professors, including Prof. Dr. Taha Ibrahim Farrag – Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ramadan – Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Ihab Rashad Tolba – Dean of the Faculty of Management Technology and Information Systems, Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Saleh – Professor at the Civil Engineering Department and former Vice President of Raya University, Prof. Dr. Laila Kamar – Professor at the Marine Engineering Department and former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, in addition to Vice Deans of the Engineering, Science, and Technology sectors, heads of departments, program coordinators, faculty members, and students from the relevant faculties.

The seminar was coordinated and prepared through joint efforts between the project team and Dr. Heba Abdel Atty – General Supervisor of the Engineering Sector, Dr. Tarek Selim – Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Ahmed Sobhy – Assistant Supervisor of the Sector, and Eng. Abdel Rahman Saleh – Assistant Lecturer at the Civil Engineering Department.

The objectives of the awareness campaign underscore the Egyptian state's commitment and keenness to build a generation aware and understanding of climate change challenges, and qualified to contribute effectively to efforts to adapt to and mitigate its impacts on the nation.

تحت رعاية السيد الأستاذ الدكتور وزير الموارد المائية والري، وبالتعاون مع الأستاذ الدكتور شريف يوسف صالح، رئيس جامعة بورسعيد، استضافت جامعة بورسعيد – القطاع الهندسي والعلوم والتكنولوجي، ممثلة في كلية الهندسة، فعاليات الجولة الثالثة من حملة التوعية بمحافظة بورسعيد. والتي تأتي في إطار الجهود الدؤوبة التي تبذلها الدولة المصرية لرفع الوعي بمفهوم التغير المناخي والتصدي لآثاره
استقبلت جامعة بورسعيد فريق عمل مشروع تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ، الذي ألقى ندوة توعوية قيّمة لأساتذة وطلاب الجامعة. تناولت الندوة عرضًا تقديميًا شاملًا حول تحديات المناخ وآثاره على دلتا نهر النيل، كما سلطت الضوء على الجهود المبذولة من قبل أجهزة الدولة المعنية للتعامل مع هذه الآثار من خلال أنشطة ومشروعات تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ.

استعرض السيد الدكتور محمد أحمد علي، المدير التنفيذي للمشروع، المخاطر المحدقة بدلتا نهر النيل جراء التغير المناخي، مؤكدًا على الإجراءات الحاسمة التي تتخذها الدولة للتصدي لهذه المخاطر. وشمل ذلك إبراز أعمال الحماية التي تم تنفيذها لثلث الدلتا باستخدام تقنيات صديقة للبيئة الساحلية، بالإضافة إلى مخرجات خطة الإدارة المتكاملة للمناطق الساحلية. تهدف هذه الخطة إلى توفير رؤية مستقبلية لصناع القرار حول المخاطر المتوقعة على طول الساحل المصري المطل على البحر المتوسط وسيناريوهاتها المحتملة حتى عام 2100، وتحديد أدوار الجهات المعنية والإجراءات المتبعة للتكيف مع آثار هذه المخاطر وفقًا للإطار المؤسسي للخطة.
من جانبه، أشار السيد الأستاذ حسن جبر الله، المنسق الإعلامي بالمشروع، إلى الأهمية القصوى للتوعية المجتمعية الشاملة بشأن التغير المناخي، مع التركيز بشكل خاص على فئة الشباب وطلاب الجامعات، كونهم نواة ومستقبل الدولة. وأكد على حرص إدارة المشروع على استهداف جميع جامعات المحافظات الساحلية كأولوية في خطة التوعية، مشيرًا إلى النجاحات التي حققتها الندوات المماثلة التي أُقيمت سابقًا في جامعتي كفر الشيخ ودمياط.

شرف الندوة بحضور كوكبة من قيادات الجامعة والأساتذة الأجلاء، منهم أ.د. طه إبراهيم فراج – عميد كلية الهندسة، أ.د. محمد رمضان – عميد كلية العلوم، أ.د. إيهاب رشاد طلبة – عميد كلية تكنولوجيا الإدارة ونظم المعلومات، أ.د. ممدوح صالح – الأستاذ بقسم الهندسة المدنية ونائب رئيس جامعة الريادة سابقًا، أ.د. ليلى قمر – الأستاذة بقسم الهندسة البحرية ووكيل كلية الهندسة الأسبق، بالإضافة إلى وكلاء كليات القطاع الهندسي والعلوم والتكنولوجية، ورؤساء الأقسام، ومنسقي البرامج، وأعضاء هيئة التدريس، وطلاب الكليات المعنية.

تم تنسيق وإعداد الندوة بجهود مشتركة بين فريق عمل المشروع والسادة الدكاترة: أ.د. هبة عبد العاطي – المشرف العام على القطاع الهندسي، أ.د. طارق سليم – رئيس قسم الهندسة المدنية، د. أحمد صبحي – مساعد المشرف على القطاع، وم. عبد الرحمن صالح – مدرس مساعد بقسم الهندسة المدنية.

تؤكد أهداف حملة التوعية على التزام الدولة المصرية وحرصها على بناء جيل واعٍ ومدرك لتحديات التغير المناخي، ومؤهل للمساهمة الفاعلة في جهود التكيف والتخفيف من آثاره على الوطن.

Comprehensive Climate Change Awareness Campaign Launched in Port Said Under the Patronage of the Minister of Water Resources and in Cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum

Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, an intensive awareness campaign on climate change and the diligent efforts made by the Egyptian state to address its impacts has been launched in Port Said Governorate. This campaign is part of the "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and Northern Coast" project, and comes in fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

The first activities of the climate change awareness campaign kicked off from the Zohr Field in Port Said, where Petrobel hosted an important seminar. Eng. Khaled Mowafy, Chairman and Managing Director of Petrobel and Head of the Northern Petroleum Region Geographic Committee, inaugurated the seminar with a speech highlighting the challenges of climate change and the efforts made by the relevant state bodies. He also referred to the company's diverse projects and activities, and the scope and variety of work in the Zohr field, given its great importance as one of the key sources of natural gas production in Egypt. He further emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the climate changes Egypt is experiencing, especially along the Egyptian coasts, due to their close link and direct impact on the activities and projects of petroleum companies. He stressed the importance of these meetings in enhancing cooperation between the bodies concerned with the management and protection of Egyptian shores and the petroleum sector and companies in Egypt.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, the Executive Director of the project, reviewed the risks of climate change on the Nile Delta and the state's efforts to address these risks through various project activities. This included protection works implemented for one-third of the Delta using environmentally friendly coastal techniques, in addition to the outputs of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan, which aims to provide a future vision for decision-makers regarding the anticipated risks along Egypt's Mediterranean coast and their scenarios until 2100, and to define the roles of relevant entities and the procedures to deal with and adapt to the impacts of these risks according to the institutional framework of the plan.

For his part, Mr. Hassan Gabrallah, the Media Coordinator of the project and head of the community awareness plan, pointed out that the beach protection works implemented by the project have significantly contributed to raising the living standards of citizens in these areas, especially as women played a major role in participating in the protection works involving reeds, one of the components of the protection structure. He stated that this seminar is part of the third round of the comprehensive awareness campaign for the climate change adaptation project in the coastal governorates, which began last December in Kafr El Sheikh, Damietta, and finally Port Said governorates.

The seminar was honored by the presence of a constellation of prominent leaders, including Eng. Chemist Mohamed Hassan Afifi, General Manager of Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Protection, and Asset Integration, and Rapporteur of the Northern Petroleum Region Geographic Committee at Petrobel. From the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Nesrine Salah El-Din, Executive General Manager of Energy Efficiency and Climate Management, and Dr. Mohamed Magdy, Director of Energy Efficiency and Climate Management, along with a number of leaders, engineers, and workers from the petroleum sector in Port Said Governorate, were also present.

انطلاق حملة توعية شاملة حول التغير المناخي في بورسعيد برعاية وزير الري والتعاون مع وزارة البترول

تحت رعاية السيد الأستاذ الدكتور/ هاني سويلم وزير الموارد المائية والري، انطلقت بمحافظة بورسعيد حملة توعوية مكثفة حول مفهوم التغير المناخي والجهود الدؤوبة التي تبذلها الدولة المصرية للتعامل مع آثاره. تأتي هذه الحملة في إطار مشروع "تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ في دلتا نهر النيل والساحل الشمالي"، وبالتعاون المثمر مع وزارة البترول والثروة المعدنية.

من قلب حقل ظهر ببورسعيد، انطلقت أولى فعاليات حملة التوعية بمفهوم التغير المناخي، حيث استضافت شركة بترول بلاعيم ندوة هامة ،افتتحها السيد المهندس/ خالد موافي، رئيس مجلس الإدارة والعضو المنتدب لشركة بترول بلاعيم ورئيس اللجنة الجغرافية للمنطقة البترولية الشمالية بكلمة سلط فيها الضوء على تحديات التغير المناخي والمجهودات المبذولة من قبل أجهزة الدولة المعنية ، وأشار سيادته إلى المشاريع والأنشطة المتنوعة للشركة، وحجم الأعمال وتنوعها في حقل ظهر، لما يمثله من أهمية كبرى كأحد المصادر الهامة لإنتاج الغاز الطبيعي في الدولة المصرية. كما أكد على أهمية رفع الوعي بالتغيرات المناخية التي تشهدها مصر، خاصة على السواحل المصرية، لارتباطها الوثيق وتأثيراتها المباشرة على أنشطة ومشاريع شركات البترول. مشددًا على أهمية هذه اللقاءات في تعزيز التعاون بين الجهات المعنية بإدارة وحماية الشواطئ المصرية وقطاع وشركات البترول بالدولة المصرية.

من جانبه، أشار السيد الأستاذ/ حسن جبرالله، المنسق الإعلامي للمشروع ومسؤول خطة التوعية المجتمعية، إلى أن أعمال حماية الشواطئ التي نفذها المشروع ساهمت بشكل كبير في رفع مستوى معيشة المواطنين في هذه المناطق، خاصة وأن المرأة كان لها دور كبير في المشاركة بأعمال الحماية في أعمال البوص أحد مكونات جسم الحماية. وأفاد سيادته أن هذه الندوة تأتي في إطار الجولة الثالثة لحملة التوعية الشاملة لمشروع تعزيز التكيف مع تغير المناخ في المحافظات الساحلية، والتي انطلقت منذ شهر ديسمبر الماضي في محافظات كفر الشيخ ودمياط وأخيرا بورسعيد.

وشرفت الندوة بحضور كوكبة من القيادات البارزة، منهم السيد المهندس/ كيميائي محمد حسن عفيفي، مدير عام السلامة والصحة المهنية وحماية البيئة وتكامل الأصول ومقرر اللجنة الجغرافية للمنطقة البترولية الشمالية بشركة بترول بلاعيم، ومن وزارة البترول والثروة المعدنية السيدة المهندسة/ نسرين صلاح الدين، مدير عام تنفيذي إدارة كفاءة الطاقة والمناخ، والسيد الدكتور/ محمد مجدي، مدير إدارة كفاءة الطاقة والمناخ، ولفيف من قيادات ومهندسي وعاملي قطاع البترول بمحافظة بورسعيد.
