@jigginbotham@eericmyers@LenValyrian Another round of SPED legislation and funding happened with 2004 No Child Left Behind Act. Not my fav legislation but did a lot for special education.
@GalvinAlmanza I was door knocking in PA this weekend and this is what I told every voter I spoke to: so much of SPED funding is federal because it comes from federal law and if Trump wins, those funds could be significantly reduced if not eliminated π
@EstherLWells@DoBetterforKids@keepmocosane The timing isn't up to her. Elections are held in Nov. She can't change the election. All candidates who are running for BOE will need to be prepared to end one employment & start their tenure as an elected official if they win an election. Ms Zimmerman is not any different.
@EstherLWells@keepmocosane What Ms Zimmerman decides to do with her professional life & how she decides to beat support her community is a decision she gets to make. We should elect people who we think will be good advocates for our students & our school system, regardless of what job they currently hold.
@DoBetterforKids@EstherLWells @MoCo360Media Alas I am not that Elizabeth C but I am honored to be amongst any MCPS teacher who is a strong advocate for her students, and especially ones w the name Elizabeth. What did she speak about? I also couldn't find her testimony
@DoBetterforKids@EstherLWells @MoCo360Media I have personal experience with Ms Diaz as a teacher. She regularly showed up late for work and made disparaging comments about students. I don't know about her performance review obviously but these are huge red flags to me as an educator outside of her anti mask beliefs.
@heymrsbond It also tugs on all the heart strings as an educator because one of the themes is about non-biological parenting and the need for community involvement in raising a child ππ₯°π
@heymrsbond no one leaves a home if they feel there is anyway they could stay and live in safety. borders are a human construct designed to keep people OUT not to keep people on the inside safe. this is the big reveal in literally ever dystopian novel π
@heymrsbond Whenever I'm struggling w work, people are like "o, difficult day with students" and I'm like NO IT'S ALWAYS THE ADULTS WHO MAKE ME WANT TO LOSE MY MIND.
@NaomiAKlein I just read your article in the guardian. This short animated film was nominated for an Oscar last year and very much gets to the questions you're asking, how can Israelis/Jews remember trauma without reliving it?

I know everyone is watching some sort of live political event tonight, but I'm laughing my ass off while watching Unfrosted on Netflix. Also @AlexEdelman what character/role are you playing?? πππ
And just so we're clear: the fear is real. Both students and parents want to be able to communicate if and when (and the when is legit) a danger presents itself. As if the job of educators isn't hard enough π
There are a thousand and one things that makes today's school shooting tragic but just to add to the discourse: every school shooting makes it harder for school professionals to convince students/parents to put the phones away.
@oledoteth Your connection between people being overweight and having poor health is BS. You're not their medical professional. You don't know the health status of any of the people you met or saw. It sounds like, compared to your home, you saw more people with a variety of body sizes.
@clhubes This is the subject of a great short documentary from a few years ago! One of my favorite quotes: I'm less afraid of a broken bone than a broken spirit!
