@Adm_Hindsight No...these ships will never need any maintenance or being refuelled and won't cost any money to develop.
And we won't need any infrastructure for them.
That's how they're so cheap!
@navalhistorian@MtarfaL Is there any rules about maintenance? With A lean crewed mothership how does the 5/6 remote ships get rearmed, repaired etc?
We won't be buikding a new fleet a support ships
@Adm_Hindsight Loyal wingman for ships has been an idea for some time but there are reasons why other nations are not going down that direction.
Plus we think it can be down without any development money.
@LandSharkUK Small footprint, with the support already in place for maintenance.
You still don't get my point, we're not at the point where ships this complicated can run without maintenance for a deployment without support.
And there is little money for development
@TBrit90 How many technologies do we think we can develop for this to work, without spending any money?
And how much infrastructure and support vessels needed without spending any money?
@LandSharkUK So you're saying with very little development money, we are going to go from a remote rhib, maybe with a heavy machine gun, to a small autonomous warship with, AESA radar that need no maintenance able to work in heavy EW environment?
Ok
@LandSharkUK You can't just go from very simple remote boats, to complex near autonomous warships in that time.
With so many unanswered question, such as who refuels, rearmed, repairs them while on deployment.
Its very similar to a Squadron of Tornados being replaced by Taranis
@AlexLuck9 Has there been any thinking with how USVs will be supported on deployment so far by any nations?
It seems to be critical area missing from the announcements.
@FennellJW@Reyt__106987 I see you defend this, but you dont answer the underlying issue. We constantly got rid of today's capability for tomorrow's dream and this is no different.
These will happen with other nations but they will still build the destroyers and frigates.
