I honestly think people are beginning to forget fandom etiquette because why am i seeing people publicly hate on fanfics and fanart that are being contributed to the fandom for FREE mind you. Like what happened to the don’t like it don’t interact??
the same ao3 discourse that has been done to death is finally reaching hockeytwt, so i thought i'd introduce you all to the dog park metaphor (created by yours truly)
"musical romance about a taxidermist who falls in love with the man she wants to stuff and turn into her human specimen" sounds insane. when do tickets go on sale
As someone who uses a whole hell of a lot of commas, dashes and em-dashes in my writing... part of the reason I haven't posted shit to ao3 is bc I am terrified of being accused of using AI.
I don't write on ao3 itself, I use Ellipsus and plan to just copy and paste + format to+
fanfic writers need to know that the actual authors of the work they're writing for sometimes get accused of writing their own characters out of character
my problem is that when i’m writing fic is that i get too excited about Concepts and Plots and then i get too big for my britches and eventually never finish
“reading fics is for jobless people” the best fic you’ll ever read is written by women in their 40s with incredibly successful corporate jobs that allow them to buy ungodly amounts of merch, i promise you
a lot of people are convinced that the fictional characters we enjoy are a direct reflection of our own morals and i believe that's why media interpretation in fandom spaces has gotten so poor. and like, rigid? we can't have proper nuanced discussions without arguments
i used to think like this until i grew up and realised reading’s a hobby, not a test. the phrase "literacy crisis" actually refers to systematic issues, not fiction genres. true literacy issues involve a declining ability to analyse text, find main ideas, or understand nuance.
every time i read takes about how ao3 has problems and 'omg, how dare that site let proshippers post their awful fics' i ask myself if this people see that theyre helping fascism. bc, my friends, censorship is NEVER the solution. it's just a weapon to undermine free will.
