Possible next moves for socialists:
❌Become alcoholic
❌Become Tory
❌Become Neo-Blairite
✅Keep working towards radical left breakthrough in the 2020s & in meantime cultivate joy, hope, solidarity wherever you can (+ don't let heart turn to stone)
Right, I’m off to deal with the usual. FWIW, I’d recommend breaking from politics for a few hours. Focus on the things that bring joy; the ties that bind rather than divide. Cherish humanity and remember that we all have more in common than we often realise.
Except Dominic Raab.
So apparently a lot of folk don’t mind that the criminal justice system is broken, and are happy to vote for the people who (a) broke it and (b) are refusing to fix it.
I have to say, I find this mildly irksome.
@mrjamesob Can all these clever people that love to attack Corbyn and the left please tell us who would be a better candidate instead? One that can unite the party, appeal to the young, appeal to leavers and remainers at the same time
Bye bye to our national sovereignty. As we isolate ourselves from EU, we’ll become more vulnerable to demands of the international financial markets:
1. Low taxes & corporate taxes
2. More deregulation
3. Erosion of workers rights
4. Marketisation/privatisation of public services
Like many people waking up this morning, I feel sadness, frustration & deep anger.
These are dark times - but the night is always darkest before the dawn #GE2019
If this poll is right then Johnson’s Trumpian politics has flooded this country and we have lost our country to the populist right. How deeply sad. How tragic. #exitpoll
The problem with the idea that Boris Johnson will revive One Nation Conservatism is as follows:
1. Recent cabinet is full of right wing libertarians
2. Johnson himself believes in free markets and a small state
3. Brexit will force our hand towards becoming an offshore tax haven
This is what I get for ‘should’. The algorithm suggests ‘should I vote labour’. But look: another ad from the Conservatives at the top of search. How many people will not even realise this is an ad?
I have no idea! Because the Conservatives have failed to comply with a subject access request & have refused to tell me. This is a potential breach of UK law FYI
Read the thread. I typed one word into Google search & I’m being directed to vote Conservative. This is a Silicon Valley tech giant algorithmically boosting political ads it then profits off. Anyone see a problem here?
The media and anti-Corbyn mob:
He's a bastard.
He's useless.
He's weak.
Repeat ad infinitum.
Then:
Why don't people like @JeremyCorbyn?
I WONDER.
Pricks.
I've managed a little sleep but I wake feeling ill.
I don't know what I'll do next but I won't stop fighting/working for a better world, somehow.
Today, I'm thinking of, feeling grateful for Jeremy Corbyn, who has never given up, despite relentless attacks. Love & #Solidarity
The question is no longer about #Brexit, but how hard the Brexit will be. Thoughts go out to the poorest and most vulnerable in society. I just hope that Boris will become the moderate One Nation Tory that he now claims to be, but I suspect that’s another lie #GE2019
Jon Lansman on Labour's demise in Scotland: "It happened under Ed Miliband's leadership, but it was actually not down to him. We lost Scotland because of the experience of Brown and Blair."
When Labour lost in 2010 under Gordon Brown, the party still had 41 Scottish MPs.
