( this is not new to her although she has limited experience, but it’s what she expected. she holds a hand out to touch the bride’s arm, hovering over her skin as if waiting for permission )
i was afraid of that. shouldn’t we get you something to keep you warm?
( the creature looks down at her bandaged arms, then shakes her head. some of the bandages were slipping off, exposing a bit of her cold corpse body. )
what do you mean? is the process not going well by design or is it not going well by your own standards? i will admit that no one sees your flaws more total than you might. not encouragement nor criticism: just an observation.
( what a smart and curious creature to have picked up on the subtle body language of those around her. elizabeth just nods, keeping her hands steady )
that’s quite alright. i suppose you cannot know everything right this instant. are you warm?
( looks around, almost embarrassed. shrugs —-- something she has learned from her creator. she didn't really know why she was alone, or why she was there in the first place. )
yes, i’ve spotted something new and found it bright and wonderful for the ends of the season, and thought to share. a little gentleness during the weather change.
( she knows firsthand how difficult it can be to start speaking, especially at such a critically early time — for them, they can take their time. it’s everything )
yes, eliza works just as well. you speak so well. a little genius, you are, sweet bride.
( letting go of the hug, she tries to repeat the woman's name. )
eliza . . .
( it was a very long word for her, so bride decided eliza was good enough. she nodded, answering elizabeth's question. )
yes!
( she cannot help but laugh with glee as well, wrapping her arms gently around her to complete the hug )
yes, friends are good!
( gestures to herself )
elizabeth. is that what you’re called? a bride?
( nods vigorously, a small gasp leaving her mouth at the word applied. what a small word to sum up the nuance of a stranger. she places a hand on her heart and beams )
oh, yes! i am your friend, or i would like very much to be. i am a safe friend.
( she doesn’t hesitate to approach the bride, slow but sure, kneeling down to pick the scissors up. she grips them tightly in her fist as she speaks with a smile, uncertain she can be understood )
you’re safe here. i won’t harm you. but these scissors might, so ill take them.
( she lets out a startled noise, eyes wide, scared that the woman was there to do another experiment on her.
seeing that elizabeth apparently meant no harm, bride's shoulders dropped.
she didn't make another sound. )
