When set out to navigate w/ our finely crafted ideas, communicating IRL w/ like-minded, & then touched by the stream of feedback & ideas from others; we are activated to make bigger changes to society. Inspired by Bucky’s quote below that came up in a serendipitous conversation.
@owocki@david1casey@FundingCommons@bbeats1 Thanks for sharing your wisdom and track record with transparency. Always something to learn and get inspired about from you. Cartographing and predicting the future of funding are specialties Asimov would greatly appreciate #Foundation#ReFi
before communities can fund what matters
they need infrastructure for thinking together
sensemaking → priorities → allocation
skip the first two and you’re going to have a bad time
The Network Nations movement starts now 🌐🌐🌐
A groundbreaking week at Emerge Lakefront's 'Network Nations research residency'—a gathering of thinkers, practitioners and visionaries exploring a critical question:
How can communities govern themselves to build collective power, resilience, and voice in a world where governments and corporations are failing us?
The stakes couldn’t be higher.
🚩 6/9 planetary boundaries are breached.
🚩 Migration, unrest, and political instability.
🚩 Eroding Public services. States are going bankrupt.
In short: the institutions our modern world depends on—nation-states, markets, and corporations—are no longer able to meet the challenges of the 21st century. And most people can feel it.
But as @mbauwens reminds us:
"Every time a civilization is in crisis, there is a return of the commons."
And today, that return is already happening—from eco-villages to community-owned energy systems, local food co-ops to time banks.
But local commons alone aren't enough. While community resilience grows at the local level, global political power is still centralized in nation-states and corporate platforms. Techno-feudalism creeps forward. Capital reigns.
🏛️ A Network State?
Models like @balajis 'Network State' introduced a new model. Digitally-native communities that coordinate online, crowdfund land, and eventually seek diplomatic recognition from existing nation-states.
But there are serious problems.
Network States pursue territorial sovereignty—placing them in direct conflict with existing governments and risking neo-colonialism—where wealthy globally mobile communities buy land, impose governance, and displace locals under the banner of “innovation.”
Balaji's model also leans into top-down, capital-driven structures. Think: startup meets nation, with a CEO at the helm and investors behind the scenes. Efficient, but authoritarian and replicating the very logics of extractive capitalism and centralization many of us are trying to escape.
What’s the alternative? Enter the Network Nation 🌱
Network Nation's build strength through trust, cooperation, and commons-based governance.
A Network Nation is:
🔹 A globally connected network of communities, united by shared values, culture, and purpose—and coordinating through open digital tools
🔹 Governed as a commons, not as a company—where power is earned through contribution, not bought through capital
🔹 Structured through participatory, polycentric, decentralized institutions—horizontal, transparent, and designed for resilience
This is not just theory. We have the tools to bring it together and we're building them now... @RegenCoordinate 👀
🌐 If you care about coordination, sovereignty, solidarity, and survival—this is your call to action.
Let’s build new institutions that meet the wicked problems of our time.
A new chapter for onchain identity and reputation in the Celo ecosystem begins today.
After a successful Alpha, Prosperity Pass Beta is live — a smart account wallet that brings all your Celo activity into one place to track, coordinate, and earn.

1/ 🎉 Introducing Ethereum House: a builders studio in downtown SF accelerating Ethereum’s next generation of hackers, researchers, and founders. Taking over a full floor @frontiertower, led by @ergokhaner & @_mia_56_
1/ Ethereum House will plant roots at @frontiertower on the 12th floor, now entirely dedicated to Ethereum.
The space includes room for meetups, coworking, and even a station to build your own validator.
Other floors in the House focus on d/acc, longevity, AI, and robotics.
@owocki 4) Beyond this. A vision I'd love to chat about: Octahedral Funding: Transcendence from competitive to collaborative funding. The multidimensional path flows from evolutionary clusters to symbiotic constellations.
@owocki 3.3) Recognizing this more linear diversity of flows (traditional vs. pioneering) is crucial. How can COCM differentiate between "stagnant" vs "innovative" clusters? Swamp-like stagnation versus Flowing river innovation. Funds should support network evolution, manifestation.
