I have worked on crab boats, survey crews, and as a no shit cowboy on a cattle ranch (why I can pull off dressing like this) and I must say that except for a few totally sublime moments on the Gulf coast at dawn or in some trenasse by the river that no man could ever find, it was awful.
isn’t the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” just a fuckin textbook Bill of Attainder? aren’t we supposed to not pass laws called the ‘Fuck This One Nigga In Particular and Rape Him In Prison Act’ ?
Been reading about whaling lately and im surprised it doesnt occupy a greater place in the american mythos. For most of the 19th century like 90% of the world market in whale products was harvested by US flagged whalers out of New England. We had guys literally circling the globe for years at a time, doing battle with real life sea monsters, exploring barely charted waters, getting eaten by cannibal tribes, getting cast adrift thousands of miles from land and surviving. Many true stories from that time that are ripe for movies etc. With the notable exception of Moby Dick (which was inspired by the true story of the whaleship Essex being sunk by a sperm whale) you dont hear much about it in popular culture. Whaling is to US maritime history what the Napoleonic era Royal Navy is to Britain or the treasure galleons and conquistadors are to Spain
A FIRE guy is someone who HATES work, so fill their youth with AS MUCH WORK AS POSSIBLE so they can NOT DO WORK sooner.

If you ever want to start a violent, passionate argument that spans years in your engineering company, ask a team of aerospace + maritime robotics engineers to agree on Altitude References
nvidia started calling them "ai factories" because if you ask middle american tiktok addled lumpen diner goths whether they want a "data center" in their town, steam starts coming out of their ears and they start growling like a hungry pit bull
Matrix multiplication is the basic computational operation that powers modern computing (including AI). Yet, the theoretical fastest speed at which computers can multiply matrices (omega ω) is still unknown and has been a longstanding challenge for complexity theory and computer science.
Today, we announce a new record for omega (ω<2.371177). This is the result of a great team effort between @GoogleDeepMind, our academic collaborators, and our Gemini-powered coding agent AlphaEvolve! 🧮

One of the most incredibly creative bioweapon concepts I have ever heard of
Flipping the chirality of organic chemistry and ending up with the same ecosystem we have today
Wowzers, the consequences would be... wow
Your son will get a 1550 on the SAT but have to go to UC Merced because some intersectional pet from Mission High School who can’t multiply fractions needs to gum up the intro to calculus class to be taught (again) how to multiply fractions.

Getting reports from sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln that they are surrounded by a vast endlessness of water that makes it impossible to leave the boat. Sailors report they’re distressed because they never expected this when joining the navy
