This is an excellent take - and also is doubled down on by the internalization of parental issues post-WW2

They did not have a way to expand their horizons outwardly so instead focused inwardly on the "persecution of the self" and the system they inherited

This would then mean that they were incapable of external expression abroad, domestic expansion, and internal truthseeking

The boomers then expanded the control apparatus in a hawkish way that ensured they were creating a self-fulfilling rationalization of the agoraphobia that is present in all Americans today

A fear of interaction, outward expansion of the self, inward introspection (too far in collapses the worldview further, so just keep a balance of reactivity to the local environment), and then a total collapse of the self identity that their heritage was based on

If you feel disenfranchised from the history the nation was built on, and there's nothing else to conquer, you create a new territory

That new territory is now the "cloud" and the "panopticon apparatus" which self-perpetuates itself because it is a mechanism that has no natural "end". You can always measure more, be more phobic towards the world, and create a wider berth of cloud space (it is infinite)

This also paved the way for the do-nothing jobs and humanitarianism, a deep guilt with no name and only a shadow cast, for they could not expand further

Which is ironic, because there's space for more stars on the flag and that could've been another frontier. Like, a Mexico without cartels?
