There’s a certain irony to this upcoming game against Palace.
Just short of 7 years ago, we played our first official game at the new stadium and Crystal Palace were the visitors.
At the time we were 3rd in the league. We had a Champions League quarter final against Man City coming up. We had finished in the top 3 of the league for the previous 3 seasons. We were widely acknowledged and respected as one of the best teams in the country and even in Europe. The opening of the new stadium was supposed to signify our ability to take that final step in becoming a truly elite club.
Instead, it has pretty much been all downhill since. We’ve gradually deteriorated as a club. We’re no longer respected or acknowledged as a great team, if anything we’re now widely acknowledged as one of the worst.
So today we are now in the ridiculous position of having to look at tonight’s game as the most important in our premier league history, as we sit one point above the relegation zone with 10 games to play, with every team around us picking up points whilst we stand still.
It’s a tragedy how far we’ve fallen. And it doesn’t bare thinking about what happens next if we don’t win tonight. All we can do is pray 🙏
Spurs legend Gareth Bale on why Tottenham find themselves at risk of relegation...
"I would say money. Look at the wage bill - it's lower [than other clubs with big ambitions].
"They always seem to buy young and hope they're going to grow into something bigger, which has worked in the past with me and a few other players, but they're an established club now.
"They have the stadium, they have the training ground, they have the fan base. They need to be buying bigger players, maybe paying a bit more. It's that bit of a gamble that you maybe need to take that, from a business point of view, they're not willing to do.
"For me that's probably the biggest issue - they don't sign the finished player.
"A £50 million player is not what it used to be. You have to be spending £80m, £90m, £100m now just to get a good player.
"It's like they just need to gamble a bit more, other clubs are more willing to take a risk financially."

@FearedBuck Robbing a kid on international TV and then threatening lawsuits because the internet hurt his feelings. The most pathetic and weakest move ever.
Yes, that should have been a red card for James Trafford after catching Kudus with a knee to the chest and swatting the ball away with his arm outside the box
A massive win away from home. This is only the beginning and we’ve got to keep working, but this is the right path.
All together, always @SpursOfficial
🚨🎙️| Thomas Frank:
“To be very, very clear, I don’t want any players that don’t want to come to the club. They don't want to come to the club, to wear this fantastic badge, we don’t want them here."
It only took Spurs three months to utterly destroy their own fans’ morale and obliterate all the good will that came from winning a trophy.
Truly a remarkable club.
@xAlexTHFC It's always when Jonathan Pearce is on comms. He just doesn't like Spurs. My Dad and I have noticed it for years. He never sounds enthusiastic or encouraging about a Tottenham win.
