We have oil in turkana and lapsset planned for this scenario. The pipeline to south sudan is a done deal. Dangote is betting on the most viable business model. Tanga oil is expensive and marred with political undertones. He is avoiding Nigerian style business prepositions.

Dangote’s proposed 700,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Lamu raises a much bigger East African question:

Where will the crude come from?

Uganda is scheduled to begin commercial production by July 2027, with peak production of 230,000 bpd, but its crude is headed to Tanga through EACOP.

South Sudan is producing about 174,000 bpd, but its exports currently move through Sudan.

Together, that’s only about 404,000 bpd.

How will the refinery operate at maximum capacity?

Perhaps this is the question we should be asking...
