One of my favorite days of the year…New Teacher Day! We are so lucky to have these amazing educators chose District 2 to be their home away from home! They are full of energy and excitement to start the year and to meet their students! My heart is full!💙@BensenvilleD2

At first, Ss agreed theyd be motivated to work if they got candy…but by the end, Ss all agreed they were very intrinsically motivated to succeed at these challenges! No candy, just pride in themselves as a reward. Thanks @edgarfplacios for helping me with the idea
How does salt affect the freezing pt of water? 2nd bilingual Ss, using the “método científico”, found out when they put 6 bottles of water, with varying degrees of salt, in the freezer. Only the “agua dulce” froze completely @BensenvilleD2@MrKerstenTIOGA@AmberSoikeEdu
Learning English is a process and students must enjoy that process and feel comfortable and safe taking risks! Combining the SEL of working with dogs is a great way to work on English skills! @BensenvilleD2
Fabulous learning occurring at Johnson today! I was lucky enough to spend time in Ms. Hernandez’s Dual language classroom with Mrs Llanes and was able to see some great coding with Ozobots occurring in the STEAM classroom too! 💙@BensenvilleD2
Attended our Multicultural Parent Advisory Committee meeting tonight. We are lucky to have such dedicated parents who are passionate about being involved in their children’s education! Thank you for the invite and for spending time with me this evening! 💙@BensenvilleD2
1st grade Dual Language students learning how to write equations! They did a fabulous job practicing a very difficult concept! Way to go Ms. Vazquez’s class 💙@BensenvilleD2
These students in a bilingual classroom read a story about 2 boys who went digging for something spectacular. Today they took ordinary rocks and painted them to turn them into something they think is spectacular! 💎✨ @BensenvilleD2
Day 2 retreat was fabulous!! We followed our new district motto “learning and growing together” and spent the morning preparing for next year and the afternoon painting portraits of our motto for our schools and district office. We are already living our motto and We love it!!💙
Paul Godinho I’m so happy to see this young lady grow up to be a dual/bilingual teacher. I gave her her first interview in education and hope to steal her away from Aurora in the future. Congratulations!
Thank you to these wonderful (and brave 😆) volunteers for taste testing the kids’ recipes. They came up with them on their own using the leftovers from the week! A skill we hope they can apply at home! @wajprincipal, @edgarfplacios, Karla Alvarez, Meaghan McGrath
In culinary camp, students learned how to budget and shop for groceries, make new recipes, cooking skills, and how to order in English at a restaurant! @BensenvilleD2
Culinary camp does more than just cook! In this STEM lesson, students made their own catapults, without even realizing they were working on their English! @BensenvilleD2
