🚨Patrick Mahomes on defending champions Argentina thrashing Algeria 3-0 and Lionel Messi scoring a hat-trick in their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener:
🗣️ “I might not be a football expert, but I know greatness when I see it.
And what Lionel Messi did tonight was greatness.
Watching him score a hat-trick on the biggest stage in world football was incredible.
The thing that stood out to me wasn’t just the goals.
It was how calm he looked.
No panic.
No rush.
Just complete control of the game.
Argentina looked like champions tonight.
They played with confidence, they played with purpose, and whenever they needed a big moment, Messi delivered.
That’s what the greatest athletes do.
I’ve seen it in different sports my whole life.
The biggest players always find a way to step up when the lights are brightest.
Messi did exactly that.
A hat-trick in a FIFA World Cup opener is special.
And if Argentina keep playing like this, they’re going to be a problem for every team in this tournament.
As a sports fan, performances like that are why people love watching the best compete.
What a player.
What a start to the World Cup for Argentina.”

Por eso Argentina juega como lo hace, porque Scaloni situa lo emotivo por encima de lo superfluo. Porque la emoción es la base de la táctica.
Qué acontecimiento es este equipo. Un regalo.
Mohamed Salah on Lionel Messi’s masterclass vs Algeria:
🗣️ “I watched the full game of Lionel Messi against Algeria, and honestly… what he did was just ridiculous from start to finish.”
“From the first whistle, you could already see he was in that kind of mood where everything he touches turns into danger, and as a player you just feel it immediately.”
“I’ve seen many great performances in my career, but the control he had over the game, the calmness, and the way he made it look so easy was something else entirely.”
“When I say ridiculous, I mean it in the purest way… because even when Algeria tried everything defensively, he still found space, time, and solutions that shouldn’t exist.”
“As a player, you watch that and you don’t even get frustrated first you just admire it, because it’s like watching someone playing a different version of football.”
“There were moments where I honestly thought the move was dead, and then suddenly he creates a chance or a goal out of nowhere like it’s nothing.”
“That’s why people call him special… because even when you prepare for him, you still end up reacting instead of stopping him.”
“Tonight was another reminder that Messi is not just a top player… he is a once-in-a-generation type of talent.
Javier Zanetti on the difference between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo:
🗣️ “When people talk about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is always debate, but what I see is a very clear difference in how people react to what they do on the pitch.”
“When Cristiano Ronaldo does something extraordinary, people often ask ‘how did he do that?’ because it looks powerful, physical, and almost superhuman in execution.”
“But when Messi does something extraordinary, people also ask ‘how did he do that?’… but in a different way, because it feels like it should not even be possible in the first place.”
“With Messi, it is not just about strength or speed, it is about vision, timing, and decisions that seem to come from another level of understanding of the game.”
“You watch him and you think the moment is closed, the space is gone, the opportunity is lost… and then somehow he still creates something out of nothing.”
“That is why defenders suffer more against him, because even when you do everything right, he still finds a solution that nobody expected.”
“In football, both players are legends, both are historical figures, but the feeling they give you when you watch them is completely different.”
“And for me, Messi is the type of player that makes you question reality every time he touches the ball.”
@TouchlineX His humility stands out too. Many players would use such a moment to celebrate their achievement. Messi instead used it to praise another all-time great and remind everyone
Everyone is focused on Messi and forgetting that Argentina has another genius: Lionel Scaloni!
The man has been managing Argentina since 2019, and back then he said he was one of those coaches who don’t build a playing system around the coach’s ideas alone, because the players themselves create the system.
When you watch Argentina today against Algeria, you can see that philosophy in action. Every player operates in central areas of the pitch except the full-backs. The distances between players are very short, creating an endless network of relationships and passing options.
This system is extremely difficult for opponents because they struggle to identify the roles of Argentina’s players. Everyone can perform each other’s duties. You end up lost while pressing, unable to figure out who the free man is, and sooner or later you’re forced to leave the flank open. Suddenly, a direct pass finds Argentina’s full-back behind your defensive line.
A coach who built a family that genuinely loves and fights for one another. A coach who created a complex tactical system with no obvious patterns. A coach who has Messi, the greatest player in history, at his disposal.
Scaloni’s Argentina is a masterpiece. 👏💙
