Having had an opportunity to take a brief, summary look through the Rape Gang Inquiry Report which has today been released, I must say, I am little surprised at what I have read.

The subject matter is entirely different from our Operation Talla investigation, yet four similarities immediately stand out.

Institutions appear to have possessed information long before meaningful action was taken.

National and local structures appear to have operated in a manner which raises questions about accountability and responsibility.

The way information was categorised appears to have influenced whether it was investigated, managed, redirected, or effectively neutralised.

Concerns about reputation, politics, narrative, and institutional consequences appear repeatedly alongside concerns about evidential decision-making.

Different facts.
Different victims.
Different allegations.

But, the same constitutional question emerges - What happens when institutions become more concerned with managing consequences than examining evidence?

Whether the subject is child protection, public policy, policing, regulation, or governance, the principle remains the same.

A healthy society follows the evidence wherever it leads.

An unhealthy one decides where it wishes to arrive first.

Sickening.

Those in command of authorities in Britain ought to be ashamed of their approaches.
