@VenusJMurphy Since you’re writing in GDocs and moving to Word, recommend hitting enter at the end of each paragraph, then worry about formatting once in Word. Sometimes formatting doesn’t transfer correctly. Saves time trying to format twice, and it’s easy to do indent first line in Word.
@SteSierra Proofreading is always the very last item; otherwise, you run the risk of introducing errors. Don’t waste money on proofreading until you’re really, truly done!
#writetip:
Details let your reader live in the moment, so sneak in a seasonal hint or detail to help your reader feel like they are there.
What would a story set in winter be without snow flurries outside and stomping of boots on the entry mat?

For #writers, rejection may come with the territory, but it still stings.
How you deal with that rejection, though, can set you up for writing success. Here's how.

@MckelleA@tattooedjackie For many writers, continuing on ensures you won’t get stuck in perpetual editing.
Highlight/mark where the changes should be and continue on as if they are made. By the time you reach the end, you’ll likely have other changes you to make, but you’ll be at “The End”.

@hannahdsharpe2 If you’re worried about getting wrapped up in editing and getting distracted from finishing, you can always make note of what needs changing, mark the manuscript, and plow on as if those changes were made. Then you can finish drafting and fix it all when you’re in editing mode.
@AuthorBwalters @Reveal_House Play the “what’s the worst that could happen?” brainstorming game. Focusing on complications and making things uncomfortable for the protagonist can feel cruel, but it’s what story needs!

Excellent advice for keeping readers engaged! Unease and unexpected responses compel readers to figure out what’s going on. Worth the read! 👇

After hearing from #writers hitting the messy middle of their novels, I wanted to share tips that helped me reach "The End".
Hint: Instead of looking ahead, take a peek backward...

@ClareMAuthor 1st pass, focus on big picture. Does the story make sense? Are transitions solid? Do characters have arcs?
All the mechanical stuff can be fixed in another round of edits. Breaking it up keeps whole editing process from getting overwhelming.
Good luck!

@LeahABoyer1 @TheWholeSarah Second this! Having feedback can help with the feeling of overwhelm. It stops you from worrying about the things you shouldn’t, and helps you focus on the parts that matter.
And no first draft is perfect. 😊
Just had the best developmental editing session with a client—Am now rooting for this story so hard.
Can’t wait for agents to get the chance to read it!

@SheaVentris @DallasStotland So true! And what seems succinct and professional to the writer can come across as brusque and dismissive to some readers.
