@pieter_haeck Politics will catch up eventually. We launched https://t.co/O0ilazW110 yesterday so Europe does not have to wait. Builders move faster than commissioners. #BuiltInEurope
@christianreber Fully agree. Europe does not have a talent problem. It has a courage & coordination problem.
Yesterday we launched https://t.co/O0ilazW110. Builder movement, not a lobby group. Manifesto live, twelve open source projects starting this week.
Join forces? #ESSM#BuiltInEurope
@IvanLandabaso I like the flywheel framing. My sense is that Europe’s challenge is broader than startup creation though. We also need a flywheel for technological capability: open source, infrastructure, adoption, talent and capital reinforcing each other.
@antirez Talent and compute are necessary, but not sufficient. Sovereignty emerges from an ecosystem: researchers, infrastructure, open source, companies and users reinforcing each other.
@MarvinTBaumann Both can be true. Sovereignty may help create the space for European alternatives to grow, but it should never become an excuse for mediocrity. The goal isn’t European tech. The goal is world-class European tech.
@Yoshua_Bengio A sovereign ecosystem is more resilient than a sovereign AI champion. That’s actually one of the ideas behind ESSM, which we launched this week.
@mikebutcher A sovereign ecosystem is more resilient than a sovereign champion. That’s actually one of the ideas behind ESSM, which we launched this week.
@michuk@MistralAI Mistral is definitely part of the answer. But sovereignty won’t come from a single company alone. We also need the infrastructure, tooling, open-source projects and developer ecosystem around it. That’s why I started https://t.co/O0ilazW110 today.
@fragiannicola Yes gladly join forces. And about the Euro economic power: it is there, just not used in an organized way. Let’s set up a network of people that willing to put their effort into this problem, and start the change. I will read your manifesto tomorrow, please read mine, and talk!
@rcbregman Exactly. Sovereignty isn’t something you regulate into existence. You build it. That’s actually why I launched https://t.co/ltxGzZlvZ5 today
@Simon__Grimm Being a big customer did not protect European access to Fable this week. Leverage through dependency only works until it does not. We launched https://t.co/O0ilazW110 today because waiting is not a strategy. #ESSM
Today I stopped complaining about European AI dependency and did something about it.
https://t.co/O0ilazW110 is live. Twelve open source projects. A manifesto. A roadmap. Starting this week.
Come build with us.
#ESSM#BuiltInEurope
@ojblanchard1@rcbregman moved my prior too. Which is why a group of European developers stopped reading and started building: https://t.co/O0ilazW110 launched today.
@benbawan The nuclear sovereignty analogy is exactly right. France did not ask permission. They decided it was non-negotiable and funded it accordingly. Europe can make the same decision on AI. We launched https://t.co/O0ilazW110 today because waiting is not a strategy.
