===========
28 March 2026,
Yamoussoukro, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
On this day, April 13, 2016, we were in Lusaka, #Zambia 🇿🇲 for an Extraordinary Session of our 2nd General Assembly.
The @_AfricanUnion Assembly had already decided in January that year that Lusaka would be the permanent home of the ECOSOCC Secretariat, moving from the AU Commission in Addis Ababa to a dedicated, standalone presence in Zambia. April 13, 2016 was when we began turning that decision into reality, working through the legal, structural, and financial steps needed to make it happen.
It was also the moment we began asking hard questions about our Statutes and whether they still reflected the Africa we were building toward.
Ten years on, both of those conversations have borne fruit. Our Secretariat stands in Lusaka. And in 2026, our revised Statutes are in force. Later this year, 209 civil society organizations will take their seats in our General Assembly, with Africa's #Diaspora holding a formal seat at the table for the first time.
We are grateful to the Government and people of Zambia for their continued support and commitment to African civil society.
