#BREAKING: U.S. SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE CALLS FOR REVIEW OF UGANDA SECURITY TIES
The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led by Chairman Sen. Jim Risch (R‑Idaho), has called on Washington to reassess its security relationship with Uganda, citing what it described as “attacks on free speech” by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
In a statement posted on X, the senator said Muhoozi’s actions, including shuttering major media houses, make the security relationship between the United States and Uganda “unfit.”
" Gen. @mkainerugaba's attacks on free speech, including shuttering major media houses this weekend, make him & the UPDF unfit partners." the senator tweeted stressing that United States should only work with governments that advance regional security, not diminish it.
Gen. Muhoozi ordered the closure of Uganda’s leading media outlets, NTV Uganda, Spark TV, and the Daily Monitor, in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026, deploying armed soldiers to seal off their premises.
Muhoozi justified his move by declaring on X that he “did not believe in a free press” and insisted that all “bad stories” about Uganda must be cleared through his office.
🚨 Imam Ibrahim Kasozi has issued a stern warning to CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba: 'Make just one move against the Kabaka or his officials and see what happens.' He reminded him that many soldiers are Baganda and won't stand by if the kingdom is targeted.
Tensions rising in Buganda and the country at large.
Months ago America started a war with Iran. In between the war, America started negotiations to end the war before Iran even asked for them.
Now here is PLU. It Shut down NMG/NTV. Before NTV does anything, PLU is seeking negotiations to open them.
