Spotted this Gadwall drake at the Boating Lake in Ally Park earlier this morning - an unusual species at the pond.
What is more, he's paired with a female Mallard!

@stephenmid@birdingetc@FriendsAllyPark@Yourallypally@Natures_Voice Same - had seen them on the reservoir before but never at the Boating Lake.
Beautiful bird on a close-up view!
And a slight chance of Brewer's ducklings from this interspecies pair!
First record for the Boating Lake was in 2018 as per Dom's post below.

Found this elegant drake Gadwall on my Alexandra Park patch y'day - 1st record for the Boating Lake (scarce visitor to nearby Wood Green Reservoir - barely annual in recent years) #londonbirds@FriendsAllyPark
Following the rain, a spell of sun shining on these young Deceiver mushrooms this morning in Alexandra Park, London.
ID notes: fibrous stems, bit hairy around the base, orange cap in wet weather.

From a sunny evening a few days ago, this nectar-feeding male mosquito who went to perch on a rose hip in Wood Green Cemetery.
I was glad in the end I managed one shot with his feathery antennae more or less in focus.

(Note the characteristic granular texture of cap and stem as well as the sucker-like stem base.)

Likely a so-called
Missing Sector Orbweb Spider, Zygiella x-notata, given her location tucked in my kitchen window frame.
Common yet charming little spider in any case.
Zigiella sp.

@RussellB1ggs Ah, so that's what those larvae are!
I had caught this flurry of Honey Fungus in its prime 5 days ago (https://t.co/SwutsuCFpA) and today it was all decay, stink and full of larvae.
A striking growth of Honey Fungus from inside this dead Horse Chesnut in Alexandra Park.
Anyone knows if common for this species to grow so high up the trunk of infected trees? Here's reaching 4m high.
Armillaria sp.
