This week an eighteen-year-old was arrested by fifteen police officers in Brisbane for wearing a singlet bearing six words. She received a caution. This time. The law she was arrested under carries two years in prison.

The architects of Robodebt - $1.76 billion in unlawful debts, lives destroyed, deaths linked to the scheme - have faced no charges. Not one. Not ever.

And now we learn from @sstephanietrann that the Queensland law used to arrest her was praised by Israel's Foreign Minister, who urged its expansion to other states. Australian law. Shaped by foreign government pressure. Used against an Australian teenager in a singlet.

When the law descends swiftly on the powerless and never reaches the powerful - when it answers to foreign interests before it answers to its own citizens - democracy itself is at stake.

The fair go is not a slogan. It is a promise. Right now, that promise is being broken in plain sight.
