It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize.
As part of our commitment to supporting student excellence, the National Laureate Prize is a new national platform to celebrate and reward outstanding research, innovation and intellectual excellence across our universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Backed by an initial annual prize fund of ₦365 million, the National Laureate Prize will award ₦35 million for the Undergraduate Star Prize, ₦50 million for the Master’s Star Prize and ₦100 million for the Doctoral Star Prize, alongside ₦180 million for 15 Thematic Excellence Prizes, valued at ₦12 million each.
The Prize is open to students and researchers across every accredited tertiary institution in Nigeria, providing a truly national platform to identify and reward our brightest minds and most impactful research.
Yesterday, I held a press briefing alongside members of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) National Laureate team, where we formally announced the Prize, outlined its vision and structure, and answered questions from members of the media on its implementation, selection process and long-term objectives.
In addition to the Star Prizes, the National Laureate Prize will feature special awards across critical fields, including Engineering and Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Agriculture, Law and Teaching Innovation.
We have also introduced the Dr. Stella Adadevoh Prize for Medicine and Medical Innovation, a special award established in honour of Dr Adadevoh’s extraordinary courage and contribution to our nation.
Jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education and NERD, the Prize will operate through a transparent, competitive and merit-driven process that puts academic excellence and impact first.
This initiative reflects the clear direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the Renewed Hope Agenda: to build a Nigeria where knowledge, skills, research and innovation are deliberately harnessed to create opportunities, strengthen our economy and improve the lives of our people.
The President has continued to demonstrate his commitment to investing in Nigeria’s human capital and giving our young people the platforms they need to compete, innovate and succeed. Through the National Laureate Prize, we are translating that vision into another tangible opportunity for Nigerian students and researchers.
Our goal is to build an education system that does not simply produce certificates, but produces solutions, innovations, enterprises and measurable national value.
tupac recorded 501 songs, but only 2 became top ten hits.
van gogh painted 2,100 paintings and only sold 1 while he was alive and it was 6 months before he died.
sabrina carpenter released 67 songs and five albums over the course of 10 years before she had her big hit "espresso."
glen powell spent 19 years trying to become an actor before "top gun: maverick" made him a star. 19 solid years.
and connor story spent 8 years waiting tables and he was ready to quit acting for good. and the day he almost got fired, he got an email and he found out that he got the lead actor role in "heated rivalry," the biggest acquired hbo show in history.
and you are giving up because you tried twice? or maybe 10 times?
look, a winner is just a loser that tried one more time and that's just it
winners lose more than losers even try.
If you go to any party and you see them put this fruit or any part of this plant into the drink they want to serve you, RUN. They call it gégémù. Run for your life. Don't look back!
I used to have a colleague who studied Petrochemical Engineering. We started at UBA together.
From operations in UBA, he moved to Union Bank as RM, then to First Bank as an RM.
He didn't spend up to a year at First Bank before he got an offer from NLNG.
The banking experience didn't stop him from getting into oil and gas.
If anything, it gave him commercial experience that made him more valuable.
A lot of people think accepting a job outside their field means they have given up on their dream. I don't see it that way.
A degree is one part of your story.
Your career is built on the skills you acquire, the problems you solve, and the results you deliver.
You can use all of that to get your dream job.
A friend of mine who I did NYSC with was retained in the place he served. He was earning 120k as of 2009, I can say it's a good job. I stubbornly stayed back in that state after NYSC without a job. So I do see this friend often. Many times I tell him to remember me if any vacancy comes out in his place of work. Some times I had to beg him for money to eat... Atleast I can remember the last one he gave me N800 which I used to buy enough beans to cook and gari. Those days I just roam about the town, visit newspaper stand and read from morning till night.... Go for Immunization Monitoring exercise whenever it comes up... Just anything to give me kobo to eat.
One day he told me that there is vacany for one small job, but even graduates do it. I don't mind any amount ọ, as far as it's job, mak I fit see food chop because hunger accompanied by death was staring at me. It happened that the job is to follow bus go hawk phones. The pay is N15000 per month(I had no problem with the amount), but the job is for School levers, even some that dropped out of secondary school. Chai! Me, https://t.co/wgKbPnOns8 holder with 2.1 hawking phones... sometimes we drag with each other pursuing moving cars. The first time they gave me the phones, tears wan comot for my eyes... I can't speak Yoruba, how will I be able to sale? First day I couldn't sale anything, and the supervisor will be shouting at me...
I thought, how will this my friend introduce me to this kind of job to mix with stark illiterates that will insult me atimes... After few days I decided to go and tell them that I won't be able to that job, but later gave it one more trial. As we went to one market, that day I sold upto 3, sold it more the price the company told us to sale, and made extra N200 gain x3= N600. I was so happy... From there morale come high, sometimes I topped the chart in a group of over 10 sellers. I was saving money on a daily after daily eating... So I didn't touch my salary. After about 3months, another contract job opportunity came for graduates in that same company, they took me, the pay was N150,000. I had to combine it with selling of phones as side hustle which I have learnt earlier...
To cut the long story short about 2/3yrs after I built a house and got married even before that my friend. The company folded about 1yr after I joined, and everyone was layed off but I used the experience and training and extablished my phone business...
Do not despise the days of little beginning.
If you just finished NYSC, please listen,
Do not let anybody put a forex platform in front of you before your allawee clears,
Do not let anybody sell you a “passive income” course before you have active income,
Do not open a SportyBet account because your bunkmate swore it was a sure banker,
You have survived one year of khaki, bad roads, and maize for dinner,
Do not now hand your future to an algorithm and a man with a rented Benz,
Your certificate is not useless, your network is not empty, your hustle is not over,
But it will all become useless, empty, and over very fast if you spend the next 12 months chasing odds and pips instead of opportunities,
The market will always be there,
But the window to build yourself properly, with focus, with clarity, with hunger,
That window is right now,
Do not waste it on a 15-leg accumulator and a signal group that goes silent when the trade goes wrong,
You just finished service to your country,
Now serve yourself.

Years ago during Ramadan, I would fake sickness and act like I had ulcers just to avoid fasting, but my parents saw through my tricks and made me fast anyway. I’d eat sahur at home, then go to the shop and borrow money from my Christian friends (who were learning tailoring with me) to eat throughout the 30 days, then return home acting like I was fasting 😭😭. I always paid them back after Ramadan because I knew my grandma and uncles would give us Eid money.
Look at me now fasting with my whole heart because I know what I’m facing is bigger than small English prayers. I need a major miracle, and I pray Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala grants it to me 🙏🙏🙏
Somebody will like you, then you like the person back. Before you know it, the person stops liking you.
Then when the next person comes, you pretend as if you don't like them, so they will be the one liking you while you're pretending not to like them. Eventually, the person leaves.😢
You can pretend not to like someone, and the moment you start showing that you actually like them, they show you shege.😭
This love thing is very funny.🤣
One of the cruelest blind spots in our society is how we completely erase male grief.
When a couple goes through an absolute, world-shattering tragedy, a miscarriage, the loss of a child, or a devastating financial collapse, 100% of the societal and emotional infrastructure instantly surrounds the woman.
The man is immediately drafted into the role of "crisis manager." He is the one expected to make the brutal phone calls, handle the legal logistics, manage the hospital bills, and be the unshakeable rock for his partner to cry on, even when his own heart is completely destroyed. We do not even allow men the basic human dignity of falling apart when their world ends. We force them to swallow their devastation and schedule their mental breakdowns for the shower or the car commute, just so they don't inconvenience everyone else's healing process.
@TadyJerry further confirms something that stuck with me:
if you want to sell to a woman, tell her everyone has it
if you want to sell to a man, tell him no one else has it
Someone I know has a danfo for a driver to use for public transport and deliver every Friday. He was remitting the first 2 months then changed in the 3rd month. He started missing one week and he promised to pay back the following week. Later, one week became two weeks and so on.
At some point, he stopped remitting and didn't bother to reach out to the bus owner. That is when wahala started. For 2 consecutive months, he didn't reach out. So one day, the wife of the bus owner told her husband, "If his juju is working on you, it won't work on me". The wife went to the driver's house with 2 soldiers on Sunday afternoon and they met him hosting a meeting (he was so comfortable hosting a club meeting 😂).
After a few beatings here and there, he confessed that he sold the bus. That is not the main issue.
He sold the bus then did juju so that the owner won't remember the bus again!. 😂😂😂
He was arrested, the buyer was arrested and the bus was recovered.
You have the confidence to do juju so that someone who gave you a bus to support your wretched life should forget about it.
Crazy stuff!
Nigeria bullies brilliant students and destroys their genius before they leave secondary school.
The genius in a person dies even before they approach college degrees.
If you are a brilliant student the entire society will attack you verbally with words like
"I too know"
"ITK"
"Oversabi"
It's like the entire country signed a deal with ignorance by blood covenant.
That they are ready to ostracise and isolate you just because you are brilliant.
Even lecturers in universities envy brilliant students and vow to fail them instead of making them finish school with a first class.
This is why in 2026 Iranian women are contributing to building Nuclear weapons while King Mictchy and VDM are drinking hypo on TikTok.
A shameful country and people with no identity.

My Wife just phoned me and the conversation went like this:
Her: "You know that Gladiator movie that I got you for Xmas..???
Me: "Yeah."
Her: "Wind it forward One Hour, 16 mins and 28 seconds."
Me: "Right, I've done that"..
Her: "Okay, you see the Gladiator at the front Fighting the Lion'..???
Me: "I can see that, yeah."
Her: Just behind him, there are two Gladiators having a Sword Fight with each other
Me:Okay, I see them.
Her: "Well, behind them two, on the left hand side of the Screen, there's a Gladiator holding a Spear"..
Me: "Yes...! I can see him"
Her: Those are the Sandals, I want for my Birthday.
