“Education should indeed be responsive to the needs of society. But this is not the same as regarding yourself as a service station for neocapitalism.”

If you’ve long thought nothing will ever beat #TeachFirst as the worst idea ever, along comes one of its creators #LordWei with something even worse #EdReform
@hazelshearing Absolute shambles. Why isn’t anyone in Government resigning over this and apologising publicly for contracts with these woeful exam boards? #EdReform
Exam board Pearson said that, as of Wednesday morning, 7,000 students were "ineligible to receive their grade" ahead of results day tomorrow https://t.co/GUZHKCVYR2
@SahraAjiba@GisburnJulia If these boards can’t do what they’re contracted to do, then they must lose these contracts. If such basic performance conditions are not in their contracts, then why not, and as DfE/Government then wholly responsible, someone v senior eg Sec of State should resign #EdReform
@PearsonBTEC Absolutely unacceptable. We are now approaching three days of delays and the affected students are missing out on valuable clearing positions. Not all students will be in a position to accept their offers and you are causing heartache, anxiety and worry in dragging out the issue
Well, that was certainly worth privatising the school system, narrowing the curriculum, demanding great conformity of students & staff, imposing a punitive fake accountability system, creating the Cult of the Leader, and generally making millions of people less happy. Good work.
Interest rates on student loan debt are set to oscillate widely. For graduates earning more than £49k, the interest rate will peak at an eye-watering 12% - in part because it's based on a flawed measure of inflation, the RPI. Policy here leaves a lot to be desired.
Interest rates on student loans set to hit 12% - that's right 12% - later this year. Result of bizarre quirks in way the system was designed. Chart below shows how the maximum interest rate is set to vary over next 3 years.
This is not sensible.
Can’t repeat this often enough. Every country with OA policies driving APC-Gold-OA as the norm needs to think long and hard about the EDI implications. And no, charity is not the solution.
1/8 The new High Potential UK Visa that opens on May 30, 2022 allows those who have completed a degree from one of 37 universities outside of the UK in the last 5 years to move there freely without an employer for 2 or 3 years (for PhD grads).
This is a HUGE deal!
the government’s own impact assessment for its tuition fee loan changes just straight-up says they’ll be good for the richest and bad for everyone else lol https://t.co/kE5g1KddJq
