HS sports participation continues to be a story, and despite some good trends overall, some schools are still struggling with football numbers.

West Caldwell will not field a varsity football team this fall.

"We don't have enough of our upperclassmen returning to safely field a varsity team. And moving underclassmen up just to make a full roster isn't the best decision," the school said on its Facebook page.

The school hopes to bring the varsity program back.

"Football isn't going anywhere at West Caldwell. Stick with it this year. Fill the stands for our JV. Let’s build the future of Warrior football together," the post said.
