@specialtechie In order for students to learn, they have to trust that your classroom is a safe place for them to make mistakes and understand that they won't be judged because of it #satchat
A6: making sure that you establish your classroom as welcoming for ALL students and that you get students talking with and learning from each other as soon as possible #satchat
@teachmbw I think sometimes teachers get scared to try new things because there is always the possibility they will fail. When they do get stuck though, they miss out on trying things that may be even better than what they are currently doing #satchat
@runningdmc@StephenHutchin6 I have some professors here (@anneleftwich ) who have really helped me along in this journey. They push me to always give 110% and I know that I will be a better teacher because of them #satchat
A4: still being in school, I am working on continuing to develop the skills necessary to effectively integrate SEL into my own classroom but I have some fantastic models here at IU to learn from #satchat
A5: having a strong relationship with students is a foundation that makes having the discussions with students about SEL topics more productive and beneficial for everyone #satchat
@Mr_Nosari I think it is super important that teachers practice what they preach because then it becomes habit to incorporate this behavior into everyday rather than doing it as an afterthought #satchat
@ApRuzich I think this is an awesome way of thinking about SEL. I understand that districts would want some standardization but kids aren't cookie cutters and one size definitely doesn't fit all #satchat
@ChrisQuinn64 I think this is super important to think about because even within one district there can be huge varieties between what students need #satchat
A:3 going back to what @MrU_ishere said, SEL is more of a mindset than a program and therefore what should be prioritized will vary depending on the school #satchat
@msfrenchteach I totally agree that we have the tendency to think of something different from us as weird which then inhibits further understanding #satchat
