@skrocki_s trust is key; if the parents and admin can trust what is going on in the classroom and can be open to your ideas and goals I believe everyone involved would be benefited. I also like the idea of the parents working with the teachers to encourage students to make good choices.
@educbiniguez@plnaugle Never thought about the idea of standing instead of sitting; I can see how some students may find it more beneficial and how it can lead to their learning success. #4thchat
@mrsapia_teach I like how much space the students have to work! Also love to see the variety of seating arrangements and how you have them spread out around your classroom.
@MarkNechanicky I’m glad to hear the flexiable seating arrangement is working and going smoothly. Definitely something I want to carry out in my future classroom! #4thchat
@Cris_Woo I would agree; I made this comment as well I think this was my thinking due to past experience of being a student in a classroom. I can admit I have been guilty of this in the past! #4thchat
A9: I never thought about trying flexible seating as teachers. They always say practice what you preach; I believe inspiring flexible seating at team/staff meetings would be a beneficial experience. #4thchat
A8: Rules are certainly important and general rules should be put into place. If certain students need extra guidance and structure; specific rules can be discussed with these individuals. No reason to punish the whole class for behaviors of certain individuals. #4thchat
A7: Asking parents, colleagues, or friends to donate a variety of useful things to help restructure your current classroom allows for a variety of options to help students learn without breaking the bank. Pinterest provides DIY projects that are creative yet affordable #4thchat
A6: I would first create a proposal that included the benefits of a flexible seating arrangement and the research behind the concept. This proposal would be presented to both the parents and admin; feedback would be encouraged. #4thchat
A5: Concerns about allowing students to self select their seating each day would be how this act may reinforce cliques within the classroom and students may choose seats that are not conducive to success. #4thchat
A4: When I have my own classroom one day I plan to change the student's seating arrangements every month or so; this also depends on the personality of my class as a whole and classroom productivity. #4thchat
A3: Classroom arrangement; from a students’ point of view, symbolizes their personality. Attention span, concentration, comprehension and the retaining of information can be influenced by where the student chooses to sit. #4thchat
A2: Flexible seating is a seating arrangement that allows students to sit in a variety of different chairs, balls, cushions, couches, ect. The idea is to create a more comfortable environment that helps students be their best learning selves. #4thchat
A1: Although I currently do not have my own classroom; through my observations of other classrooms I like when the desks are in small groups with space for students to sit on the floor or in comfy chairs. A variety of seating options for the students. #4thchat
