I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola.
Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families.
@WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response.
With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.

That's where greenhouse technology comes in. 👇

Fact or Fiction: The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (@EACOP_ ) is exclusively for
transporting Uganda's crude oil and will
not include any other infrastructure.
Answer: FICTION! While @EACOP_ will
transport Uganda's crude oil to the international market, the project also includes 48-core fibre optic cables, which will offer robust backup for internet connectivity, contributing to the country's growing digital infrastructure.

We launched our new Space Engineering Center yesterday, bringing together 5 PIs and students from a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines to research and develop cutting-edge space technologies.
The Center’s research spans satellite structure design and #3Dprinting, advanced materials for space environments, inertial navigation systems, communication and signal-processing algorithms for space applications, spacecraft operating systems, hyperspectral sensing, and post-quantum encryption technologies.
The Center, part of the Fleischman Faculty of Engineering, is led by Prof. Meir Ariel and includes leading researchers Prof. Slava Krylov, Prof. Ofer Amrani, Prof. Ronen Varker, and Dr. Lior Medina.
Working closely with Israeli industry and the Ministries of Defense and Science, the Center will develop homegrown space technologies and has already built and launched 23 nanosatellites for scientific research.
"TAU is among the global players in the space industry thanks to the quality of its researchers and students. Not many academic institutions can compete at this level," Prof. Ariel said.
Beyond research, the Center promotes science and engineering education across Israel, particularly in geographically and socially underserved communities, establishing school-based R&D hubs that enable talented young people to participate in and excel at national space projects.
We extend our sincere thanks to our industry partners, including @ILAerospaceIAI , the Ministry of Defense, the Soreq Nuclear Research Center, @RAFAELdefense, and many others, as well as our academic collaborators whose support helps advance our mission.
The launch ceremony featured remarks by TAU President Prof. Ariel Porat, Dean of Engineering Prof. @noam_eliaz, Director General of the @ILSpaceAgency@ranlivne, senior leaders from Israel’s space industry, and TAU researchers and students.
Visited this afternoon Tripple J Agro farm in Bombo. Its an 80 acre dairy farm with 140 dairy animals indoors ( zero grazing). They are powering their operations 100% with Bio-gas from the animal waste. Its zero waste for them.
They are also processing yogurt and gradually going into pasteurized and powdered milk.
Excited to see commercial farmers investing and developing whole value chains on farm and therefore creating Jobs!
Our strategy as government in the next 5 years is to ensure that all clusters of farmers ( small, medium & large ) get supported to fully produce with added value. PDM interventions will be scaled up to support more small holders while favorable ( low or no interest) credit facilities will be rolled-out through UDB and other government banks to support the medium and large scale clusters. This is how the agriculture sector will create more jobs and contribute substantially to the 10 fold growth strategy of the economy and be able to sustain the agro-industries.
