The State of North Carolina has nearly $5 billion in its rainy day fund. It's been pretty damn rainy. That's our money. Time to start spending it on rebuilding in the mountains. @NC_Governor@SenatorBerger@NCHouseSpeaker#ncpol
What should national media be doing in the mountains of NC and TN?
*Be respectful of people and their losses.
*Understand that the region is huge and includes many places far from Asheville and even your new disccovery, Boone. 1/3
*Use the skills and resources that allow you to get reporters into a cave in Afghanistan to reach remote places.
*Support local media every way you can.
*Find and amplify reliable social channels. Credit them. 2/3
It's hard to get reporters on the ground and telecom infrastructue is badly damaged (a story in itself) but big media is failing a region in desparate need. And they need to look beyond Asheville, where it's bad at biblcial scale, but the situation is desparate far and wide.
The national media is missing the scale of disaster in Western NC. This is a Katrina-level event and it deserves Katrina-level coverage but you have to scroll to find stories at the @NYT and @WSJ sites. Even weatherporn sensationalist @CNN has today's story below a recap of SNL.
"The less valuable a system is to you, the easier it is to leave." Most of the folks I come here for are still around, but for how long? "Twitter got bought out by a low-attention-span, overconfident billionaire who started pulling out Jenga blocks..."

My Thanksgiving plan is to do what my sister and I were doing in this pic and ignore impending disaster for a bit, not suggesting a fulltime Don't Look Up strategy but hope you all can do the same for the holiday

My dad told me how the fabled Charlie Justice teams of his youth flamed out in all three of their big bowl games. I lived through the LT-era crash-and-burn at Oklahoma. So last night felt like tradition, not tragedy, for UNC football. Still, though, dammit.
