INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION
PRESS STATEMENT
RE: ALLEGED MISUSE OF AUTHORISED ACCESS CREDENTIALS AND UNAUTHORISED DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION FROM THE COMMISSION’S CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) DATABASE
The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to allegations currently circulating on social media and in some sections of the media regarding the alleged unauthorised access to the Commission's Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database and the subsequent publication of information on a candidate in the recent primaries of a political party in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Commission takes this allegation seriously and has immediately commenced a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
As part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, authorised INEC Registration Officers were granted controlled access to specific components of the CVR system to enable them register new applicants, process requests for transfer of registration and update voter records where necessary. Such access is restricted to official duties only and is withdrawn at the conclusion of the exercise.
The audit trail from the preliminary investigation has enabled the Commission to identify the user account through which the information was accessed. Accordingly, relevant personnel have been questioned, and all units connected with the incident are cooperating fully with the investigation.
The Commission is also examining all technical, administrative and operational factors associated with the matter in order to establish individual responsibility and determine the circumstances surrounding the use of those credentials and identify any breach of internal access-control protocols before taking appropriate action against anyone involved.
Preliminary findings from the Commission's audit trail so far, however, indicate that there was no external breach of the CVR database, no hacking incident, and no unauthorised external access to the Commission's ICT infrastructure. Rather, the information in question was accessed through valid user credentials assigned to personnel participating in the ongoing CVR exercise but released without authority.
The incident under investigation relates to the retrieval of a specific voter record and does not indicate any compromise of the Commission's broader voter registration infrastructure or the personal data of over 90 million registered voters.
The Commission wishes to state categorically that it takes the security, confidentiality and integrity of voter data with the utmost seriousness and remains committed to transparency, institutional integrity, and the protection of voters' personal information.
Furthermore, the Department of State Services (DSS), on its own accord, has commenced an independent investigation into the matter. The Commission will continue to cooperate fully with all relevant security agencies and will not hesitate to refer any person found culpable for appropriate legal action.
Members of the public and the media are therefore urged to disregard unfounded speculations while investigations remain ongoing. The Commission will continue to keep the public informed of its final findings and any measures taken in response to the incident in due course.

@renoomokri When Jimmy Carter installed the solar panels, was America having erratic power like what Nigeria currently has?
I don't know why Reno likes making lopsided comparison.
People like you should understand this argument before coming up with arguments that indict your patriotism
@NigeriaStories The establishment and runnings of primary health care centres is the peregotary responsibilities of the local government. The federal government of Nigeria has nothing, whatever with that. So, if the local governments have been given autonomy, wht stops them frm doing this
@IretiKingibe Madam Senator, I didn't know you're still representing the good people of FCT oo. I think you are completely missing in action when it comes to making your impact on the good people of FCT. I remembered how I tailed during the last campaign to ensure you were elected
@IkeGod_@AishaYesufu@NOIweala Thank you for these facts you published to put the record straight. People like @AishaYesufu would just cook up half-baked stories to deceive the naives . Unfortunately, they're not aware that records don't lie.
@MobilePunch For instance, it usually takes a driver about 12k to get his vehicle ( four cylinder) serviced, now it's about 30k. Spare parts are annoyingly expensive. FG shd now tell me how the 30% discount will be applicable. Unfortunately, d proposed damage control will nt make much sense
@MobilePunch I think the only achievable solution is getting the fuel price reverted to 195 naira where a passenger wasn't charged beyond 5000 to airport and back. Besides, buying fuel this expensive has skyrocketed the prices of all vehicles related expenses, not only fuel.
@MobilePunch 2. Thousands of ride-hailing drivers get passengers from every directions to the airport on a daily basis, who haven't get their vehicles converted, how would they effect a discount. 3. Airport authority doesn't have a database of all taxes visiting the airport on a daily basis
@MobilePunch In as much as this is Laudable, it's a clueless initiative. Firstly, a 30% discount on fares by the beneficiaries who are still indebted to FG over 50% cost has not break-even, in order to allow him effect a discount.
Trending video of the moment an Abuja anti-protest protester lost focus and started complaining about hunger, his comrades pushed him away from the camera.

#InCaseYouMissedIt: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele on charges of illegal printing of naira notes.
My attention is drawn to a disturbing disclosure by the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as he addressed State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, 14 May.
There is, according to the Minister, a move by the Federal Government to rev up economic growth by unlocking N20 trillion from the nation’s pension funds and other funds to finance critical infrastructure projects across the country. The Minister has indicated that although "the initiative is expected to attract foreign investment interest over time", domestic savings are his ‘immediate focus’ for now.
He provided no useful details, such as the percentage of the funds to be mopped up from the Pension Funds, for example. Even at that, this move must be halted immediately! It is a misguided initiative that could lead to disastrous consequences on the lives of Nigeria’s hardworking men and women who toiled and saved and who now survive on their pensions having retired from service.
It is another attempt to perpetrate illegality by the Federal Government. The government must be cautioned to act strictly within the provisions of the Pension Reform Act of 2014 (PRA 2014), along with the revised Regulation on Investment of Pension Assets issued by the National Pension Commission (PenCom). In particular, the Federal Government must not act contrary to the provisions of the extant Regulation on investment limits to wit: Pension Funds can invest no more than 5% of total pension funds’ assets in infrastructure investments. I note that as of December 2023, total pension funds assets were approximately N18 Trillion, of which 75% of these are investments in FGN Securities.
There is NO free Pension Funds thst is more than 5% of the total value of the nation's pension fund for Mr. Edun to fiddle with.
There are no easy ways for Mr. Edun to address the challenges of funding infrastructure development in Nigeria. He can’t cut corners. He must introduce the necessary reforms to restore investor confidence in the Nigerian economy and to leverage private resources, skills, and technology. -AA
