Just like Mayor Wilson made Chief Barnes the fall guy, Governor Ferguson is doing the same to Wilson. I suspect things unfolded like this:
Shooting occurs, SPD responds heroically. Realizes immediately that it was a gang shootout and that suspects are at large. Wants to alert the public, but with Barnes out of town and Wilson unsure how to respond in a crisis (not a lot of those at the Transit Riders Union) she put everyone on hold trying to pull resources together.
Contacts Gov, who is ostensibly the top leader in the state, while at daughter's softball game and engaged in family stuff (good for him btw). He immediately realizes upon reading the text that it's serious, and as a lawyer who saw the records debacle around CHOP, requests a call rather than have anything in writing.
This is where the music should have stopped. The Gov should have gotten on the phone with the Mayor and displayed leadership. "How bad is it? What is the current situation on the ground? Is there a current risk? Has SPD communicated to the public? If not, why not and get someone out there now, do not wait for myself and the other "dignitaries" to assemble."
Politics and fear of public disclosure likely led to a critical delay, fueled by an absentee chief, poorly constructed lines of command and communication, inexperience in one top job, and optics management by another one.
And the public suffers because of it.

Modern media creators act like "deconstructing" film genres is some bold new amazing concept. Chaplin winked at the camera in 1915. Keaten climbed INTO a movie screen in 1924. The Marx Brothers told the audience to go buy popcorn in the middle of the movie. Deconstruction is nearly as old as cinema itself.

Particularly Westerns and superheroes, perhaps because they've been a major target of deconstruction of late. When's the last Western that WASN'T "deconstructed"?

Spiderman himself was originally a deconstruction of comics. For westerns, we can go back to the 1940s & 50s with Destry Rides Again and The Big Country, both of which analyzed and deconstructed the genre.

Unforgiven and Deadpool were of course also deconstructions. BUT they were also done with love for that genre, and it showed. They didn't hurt the underlying ideas behind the films. You can watch Deadpool and yet it doesn't retroactively ruin Christopher Reeves' Superman.

The difference in The Boys, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta is that these deconstructions don't (to me) feel like they were done in love. They feel like attacks, tearing down the concept dea of superheroes, and succeeding.

Compare the film Unbreakable to Watchmen. Unbreakable LOVES superheroes. Even the villain's evil is because he loves superheroes, but it doesn't change that superheroes are awesome. But Watchmen's supposed "heroes" are arrogant elitists that no one can sympathize with. The one guy everyone likes (Rorschach) is supposed to be a villain in the eyes of the creator, which shows how far off the superhero reservation he has mentally wandered.

That^ is from a cattle rancher in Okanogan County, who says the blame for intensifying wildfires is a result of decades of land mismanagement, by both the Washington state and Federal departments of public lands.

Interesting conversation that also leads into why beef prices are so high right now in the US.

Those of us behind enemy lines in states that totally ban suppressors and such are still out of luck though. Which is why I was bummed to see the court not reach the Second Amendment question, as that could have eventually led to a circuit split.

Notwithstanding these questions and tons more that will arise, we shouldn't lose sight of what a huge moment this is. I personally would have preferred to get a Fifth Circuit ruling on this, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. In a little over a year, the NFA has suffered two massive blows, the first success we've had against the unconstitutional scheme in nearly a century since it has been enacted.

To be clear: it was unconstitutional even when it was a tax, because taxing common arms is unconstitutional (and I have an extensive law review article on that topic out soon!). But with the tax gone, the registration scheme really had no leg to stand on.

It was ridiculous (but predictable) that the Senate Parliamentarian saved the registration provisions last year, given that from the start, the NFA was always only justified as a tax measure. That abuse has now been corrected.

Gun owners need to make sure to get out there and vote in November, because those opposed to us definitely will. Maybe the House is too far gone, but we can certainly at least help save the Senate majority, which would mean the continued appointment of more good judges like the one that issued this ruling. This administration was already the most pro-2A in the modern era even before tonight's news, and so there's really no excuse to not turn out for them to the extent you vote based on 2A.

In every poll and in most real life discussions, the number 1 motivator for people to oppose the state income tax is that they know it’ll apply to them in no time. They aren’t fools, every income tax starts as a tax on the wealthy, and in time becomes a devastating tax on the average working class citizen.

They gave a false impression that DSA candidates and the far-left were far more popular with Dem voters in purple areas than reality indicates.

We will see how this really affects the general, but there needs to be a complete reconsideration as to how these races are being covered.
