밀리터리 소설이라기 보다는 일본의 구조적인 병폐를 그려낸 작품인데, 후쿠오카를 중심으로 한 규슈가 점령 당한 일본 정부는 도쿄를 지키기 위해 규슈를 일본에서 단절함. 이런 갈등 구조가 중심이고 이건 일본을 점령한 북한 과격파도 그런 갈등 위에 있음. 이 북한군도 버림 받은 집단.

무라카미 류 선생이 돌아가셨구나, 무라카미 선생의 작품 중에 반도에서 나가라가 인상적인데, 당시 한국에서는 북한이 일본을 침략하고 일본의 불량배 들이 모인 레지스탕스가 물리치는 내용의 이상한 국뽕 밀리터리 소설로 알려져서 낮은 평가를 받았는데. 그런 내용이 아니었다.
