I think, and I have no evidence, that also many nations wanted more independence to self govern and so there was support/effective path for it???

Just on one platform waiting for delayed Lewisham train at Canary Wharf. There are huge delays so busy platforms. Without announcement the Lewisham train went to the other platform. I run to the other platform. Half the passengers left behind. Why not announce ?
